Whistler Blackcomb will be transformed today as the brand new Peak 2 Peak gondola is opened. The new $52million state-of-the-art investment will revolutionise this world-famous winter and summer playground, linking Whistler and Blackcomb mountains for the very first time. Having just received a fresh scattering of west coast powder, the resort is all set for its best season yet.
A whole host of activities and celebrations are planned for the big day, beginning with an official ceremony and performances on top of both Whistler and Blackcomb mountains. A traditional ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 11am PST and the Peak 2 Peak Gondola will depart from both terminals with its first guests on board. Those guests will include 'Ride of Their Life' winners, 22 well-deserving Whistler citizens who were nominated by the local community for their passion and dedication to Whistler Blackcomb.
The Peak 2 Peak will then run throughout the afternoon for all guests to enjoy. After an historic day on the mountain, the celebrations will continue into the evening, with a 'Grand Apres' in Skiers' Plaza, live performances, films and DJ's.
