DOLOMITES DISCOVERY WALKING IN SELVA
Selva is the perfect centre for keen walkers and the Continental is the ideal hotel. Using two typical walks accompanied by the hotel's own guide and 3 walks from the included Selva Active programme and guided by the Tourist Board, your walking week could look like this. The hotel reserves the right to vary their two itineraries. The sample programme assumes a Saturday arrival but works equally well with a Wednesday start. Please note prices are shown as a guide only.
DAY 1 SATURDAY: Arrival at airport and travel to your selected hotel.
DAY 2 SUNDAY: The first walk, guided by the Tourist Board, is an easy exploration of the alpine pastures of the Dolomites around Selva. A good introduction to the area, 5-6 hrs. Evening: meet your guide in the hotel to learn about tomorrow walk.
DAY 3 MONDAY: Take the Dantercepies gondola next to the hotel (€9, free with Valgardena card) and work your way back down to Selva on path 654 and 653. Walk below the Sella mountain with beautiful views of Val Gardena, Val Badia and the spectacular Sassolungo peaks. A fairly easy half day (3½ hrs, 11km).
DAY 4 TUESDAY: The Tourist Board guide accompanies us into the Puez Odle National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. An area of around 40 square miles, the spectacular geology typifies the landscape of the Dolomites. Start 9.30 and allow 5-6 hrs. Easy / moderate.
DAY 5 WEDNESDAY: A range of options today. Your included Selva Active programme offers a half-day walk with a naturalist in the Puez Odle. Our representative can give you details of many other walks; explore the Ferrata (old railway line) as it winds down to Ortisei (9km) and spend an afternoon exploring the town.
DAY 6 THURSDAY: The hotel's second walk is more demanding (13½ km, 5½ hrs climbing 750m). Bus towards Seurasas to take paths 20 and 6 up Pic mountain. The route down to Selva affords great views of the Marmolada glacier and beautiful wild flower meadows.
DAY 7 FRIDAY: A relaxing last day. Guided evening walk to Bustac to watch the sun set over the Dolomites. Cost of €10, (payable in resort) to cover dinner in a mountain refuge (warm clothing).
DAY 8: Transfer to the airport, extend your stay or combine with a second centre - perhaps Merano for more excellent walking.
