This charming little market town set in the wide sunny valley close to Kitzbühel is full of Austrian traditions with a Baroque twin spire church and pretty town square filled with quaint cafés that play host to regular festivals and celebrations throughout the summer. There are plenty of shops and restaurants - guests enjoy the ‘Huber Bräu’ local Brewery with its very own tower, for traditional cuisine and views. The town is surrounded by miles of gentle walking and cycling paths, including riverside and valley walks to Kitzbühel, as well as up to higher peaks accessible by gondola. Bus and train links are excellent and its central location between Innsbruck and Salzburg make it a great base for excursions. There is a full programme of events run each week by your Inghams Rep.
Hello there, my name is Lee, and I am the Resort Manager for Kitzbuhel, St. Johann and Kirchberg, but live in Kitzbuhel and predominately look after guests staying in the centre of Kitzbuhel and Kirchberg. 16 years ago, I headed overseas at the age of 19, to see as much of the world as I could working for a tour operator, and 16 summers later, I’m still travelling around and trying to take in as many different countries and cultures that I can. I will have to say though; in 2005 I was given a summer placement of Italy, which I was very reluctant to take, as I never saw Italy as a summer holiday destination, but once I arrived, I fell in love with the country (and the ice cream) and ended up working 8 summers in Italy and 4 winters in the Italian mountains. One of my favourite places in Italy is the beautiful Lake Garda, with its dramatic scenery, beautiful lakeside promenade, and in an ideal location for exploring the stunning sites close by such as Verona, Venice and Milan.
Last year, I took the plunge and decided that I needed to move on and explore more countries (which was the whole idea of the job) and worked in Lech, in the beautiful Arlberg region of Austria. And for summer 2014, I have finally returned back after a 9 year break back to the picturesque resort of Kitzbuhel. There is so much to do here, such as walking and hiking, cycling along the river, and on hot lazy days, relaxing round the beautiful Schwarzee lake. During this summer, I have 2 activities which I want to accomplish before I leave, which is canyoning and secondly paragliding from the top of the famous Hahnenkamm mountain.
Hello my name is Amy and I am your Ingham’s Rep for St. Johann and Kitzbuhel. In 2006 I set off on my first summer season away and have never looked back. With Ingham’s I have worked mostly in the Canadian program in Banff, Alberta and Fernie, BC and can now proudly add Austria to my list. I love living in the mountains, may it be summer or winter… driving to work with a mountain range in full view, never gets tired and here in Austria it is no exception! With fantastic views of the Kitbuheler Horn and the Wilder Kaiser St. Johann is one of the prettiest resorts here in the Tirol. And when it a good hike I’m looking for I head straight up the famous Hahnenkamm ski run in Kitzbuhel to get my fix.
In my spare time I love to go for a hike, an afternoon run or swim some lengths of the local pool and on an evening, treat myself to a cheeky Radler. I’m very keen on staying fit and healthy whilst having an immense appreciation for the natural world, so spending the summer here in Austria suites me down to a tea. I am also lucky enough to guide our excursion to Grossglockner, where from week to week the scenery changes and you really appreciate the grandeur of the mountains, the dramatic rock formations and of course the vast number of glaciers in the Hohe Tauern National Park.
Our location in the Tirol makes us a stone’s throw away from some amazing days out, such as the neighbouring region of Bavaria, where you can take a trip to Berchtesgaden and Hitler’s mountain hideaway the Eagles nest. Or if like me you’re a sucker for a good Musical, you can always head to Salzburg the home to The Sound Of Music, one of the nicest cities I have ever visited.
If you are visiting either Kitzbuhel or St. Johann I’m sure you will enjoy your stay. With great food (especially Apfel Strudel), locally brewed beer, a plethora of tradition and some of the nicest people you will ever meet, what is not to love!
Here’s an unusual one! The 33rd Dumpling Festival in St. Johann, Austria on the 20th September with the longest dumpling table in the world, 300 meters long producing around 25,000 delicious dumplings! St. Johann’s main street, Speckbacherstrasse, becomes one enormous open-air restaurant. Socializing with the locals, traditional brass band music and lots of good food and drink are the order of the day!
