Lake Trasimeno

Set in rural Umbria near the Tuscany border, Trasimeno is an ideal base from which to explore these two regions. Assisi, Perugia, Siena and Florence are all accessible in a day. Castiglione lies on the south-western shore of the lake. Its old walled town overlooks the lake and is a delight to explore. Passignano (main picture) sits on the northern shore. Its historic centre of cobbled streets is dominated by an imposing fortress.
