Lake Bolsena, Italy lies 100km north of Rome in a relatively undiscovered part of the continent. The largest volcanic lake in Italy, Lake Bolsena's deep waters are exceptionally clean and sustain a thriving fishing community. Bolsena is the principal tourist centre on the lake's shores, but it is uncommercialised and visited mainly by Italians. Founded by the Etruscans, the old town is dominated by the Monaldeschi castle and its raised position affords lovely views of the lake from its squares and medieval streets. These run down to the lakeside, where our hotels are located.

The attractive promenade provides shady places to relax whilst on Lake Bolsena holidays; take a drink at one of the terrace cafés and enjoy the view. Lake Bolsena hotels make a good base for excursions: Rome, of course is especially popular but Siena in Tuscany and Orvieto in Umbria can be comfortably visited on a full day excursion.
