once the private summer retreat of
the Austrian Emperors. The emerald
waters of the lake are framed by the
picturesque Karwendel and majestic
Rofan mountain ranges, offering splendid
walking, cycling and wildlife viewing
opportunities in Tirol’s largest nature
reserve. Relaxing alternatives include
a boat trip around the lake or a trip
on the steam driven cog railway which
terminates in nearby Seespitz. There
is a wind-surfing and sailing school, a swimming lido, tennis courts, golf, riding, horse-drawn carriage rides, excursions to nearby Innsbruck and numerous other places of interest. Concerts, folk festivals and Tyrolean evenings take place throughout the summer.
