Discover the beauty of Italy’s Renaissance City

Florence abounds in artistic treasures
and architectural beauty. Set in stunning
Tuscany on the banks of the River Arno,
it has drawn art lovers throughout
the ages. Florence was the birthplace
of the Renaissance, home of the powerful
Medicis, Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo.
Great works of art can be seen in the
Pitti Palace, Uffizi and Accademia
gallery where Michelangelo’s David
stands. The city centre is compact
and mainly pedestrianised so exploring
its sights is easy; stroll along the
banks of the Arno to the 14th century
bridge, the Ponte Vecchio, famous for its jewellery boutiques and admire splendid villas, churches and the cathedral, il Duomo, with Brunelleschi’s magnificent dome. Florence has a huge range of ice-cream parlours, cafés, shops, and trattorias where you can sample the local Tuscan cuisine.
