Lake Garda, Veneto 213 ft
A pretty, historic resort with a mild climate.
The bustling resort of Garda is on the
Eastern shore of Lake Garda, where
the lake broadens and the scenery becomes
more gentle. Garda has a backdrop of
hills, covered with olive groves, cypress
trees and the famous Valpolicella vineyards.
In the centre, historic buildings such
as the Venetian Palace of the Captains
rub shoulders with sophisticated cafés
and colourful ice cream parlours which
line the wide and attractive tree-lined
promenade. The shopping here is varied
and the large lakeside Friday market
is a popular tradition. Many of the
streets are traffic-free, so you can stroll safely around the old cobbled streets. Regular ferry and hydrofoil services access other lakeside resorts and you can enjoy a delightful lakeside walk to neighbouring Bardolino.
