Itinerary: Venetian Istria & Slovenia
Day 1 - Wednesday Fly to Ljubljana and transfer to your hotel in Opatija. After welcome meeting with your Inghams Tour Guide you have a free afternoon to explore this charming seaside town.
3 nights stay in Opatija Day 2 - Thursday After breakfast you will visit the Plitvice Lakes, one of Croatia’s National Parks and a UNESCO World Heritage site. A valley situated between high forested mountains and a string of 16 beautiful lakes of crystal clear blue-green colour. The lakes are fed by streams and spill into each other forming cascades and thundering waterfalls. The exceptional beauty of the lakes and waterfalls with its rich plant and animal life and contrasting colours attracts many nature lovers. Lunch is on site and dinner is taken at hotel.
Day 3 - Friday Discover the natural beauties of the Istrian Peninsula or absorb the culture and history. Visit the historical town of Pula and the Brijuni Islands, or join the optional excursion to the highest peak (1401m) of Istrian peninsula – Ucka National Park, where you experience the unique flora and fauna with breathtaking views of the Kvarner bay. After a visit to the Roman Amphitheatre and Temple of Augustus in Pula, a panoramic drive to the port takes you through the centuries. Enter Brijuni Islands by boat followed by a train ride in the Safari Park amongst the Roman and Byzantian ruins; visit the photo exposition of ‘Tito on Brijuni’ and the 15th century museum of St Jerome’s church. Dinner is taken in the hotel.
Day 4 - Saturday Departing Opatija on route to Slovenia you visit the historical villages of Hum, Buzet and Motovun where you experience the local life and specialities. After lunch we continue to Piran with free time to explore the old town and continue to Postojna. Dinner will be taken in the hotel.
1 nights stay in PostojnaDay 5 - Sunday A guided excursion to the world famous Lipica Stud Farm & Postojna Caves will be the highlights of your day. You will visit the stud farm where the Lipizzaner horses are bred for centuries and a special show is performed. After lunch at the farm you will make your way to one of the most beautiful caves in Europe – Postojna; 22km long where an electric train transports you through the most beautiful tunnels and drive onwards to Bovec. Dinner will be taken in a traditional local restaurant.
2 nights stay in BovecDay 6 - Monday After breakfast you will visit the unique city of Venice where you have free time to explore St Marco square, the Basilica, the Grand Canal, the Rialto Bridge, the Doge’s Palace, and the Bridge of Sighs or go shopping for the famous Venetian glass. After a short ‘Vaporetto’ ride, the bus will take you back to Bovec for dinner in the hotel.
Day 7 - Tuesday Free morning in Bovec; visit the Kluze Fortress, war cemetery and Church of St Leonard. On route to Kranjska Gora we stop at Tretna museum and drive through the Soca Valley - one of Slovenia’s wild natural beauty spots and a key historical location of World War 1. Over the Vrsic Pass (1611m) you make a stop by the Russian church built in the memory of the soldiers who lost their lives working on the Pass. Dinner is taken at your hotel in Kranjska Gora.
3 nights stay in Kranjska GoraDay 8 - Wednesday Enjoy a guided trip to Bled and Bohinj - two beautiful lake regions. In Bled you can visit by boat, the castle overlooking the lake and the St Maria Church on the island. Afterwards you will go to Lake Bohinj for a traditional lunch in a local restaurant followed by a visit to the spring of Sava River. An optional ride by cable car is available to Mount Vogel, for a picturesque view of the Julian Alps and Triglav National Park. Dinner is taken in the hotel.
Day 9 - Thursday Free morning in Kranjska Gora to walk to Jasna Lake or take a short stroll in the mountains. In the afternoon an optional excursion to the Kamnik Arboretum is available. The park spreads over 80 hectares of ecologically diverse grounds with over 2500 different types of trees and shrubs in a beautiful lake and parkland setting. Dinner is taken in a traditional local restaurant
Day 10 - Friday After breakfast you will depart for the capital of Slovenia – Ljubljana. A guided tour is included around the Castle, Open air market, Three Bridges, Franciscan Church, Robba Fountain. You will have free time to visit the Gruber Palace, Plecnik, Shoemakers Bridge and Tivoli Park,which are in and around the Old City. A Farewell is held in the hotel.
1 night stay in Ljubljana Day 11 - Saturday Depart for Ljubljana Airport and your return flight to the UK.
