Set at the foot of the impressive ‘North
Face’ of the Eiger, with its dramatic
glaciers in full view, Grindelwald
is a friendly mountain village with
chalet-style houses, cafés, restaurants
and a good variety of shops. This is
fantastic walking country, and Grindelwald
has easy access by rail, cable-car
and gondola, to both sides of the valley,
encompassing a lion’s share of the
Jungfrau region’s best paths. Take
the ‘First’ gondola for fabulous, scenic
walks, or the Männlichen gondola to
meet the cable-car down to Wengen.
Alternatively, travel on one of the world’s most famous railway journeys through tunnels and past glaciers to the Jungfraujoch at 11,333 ft. Wilderswil, Interlaken and the lakes of Thun and Brienz are also within easy reach.
