Built on ninety islands and one of Europe’s great trading centres, Amsterdam is a beautiful, vibrant city with an infectious atmosphere and a wealth of things to see and do. Stroll through narrow streets of rows of monumental gabled houses with richly decorated facades and picturesque house boats. The focal point of Amsterdam is Dam Square with the Royal Palace, National Monument and Nieuwe Kerk (new church). The Damrak leads down to the beautiful station building, which seems to be floating! To the west you can visit the house where Anne Frank hid from the Nazis or the ‘artistic’ and lively Jordaan area, whilst eastwards the bustle of Waterlooplein leads to the calmer green areas of the botanical gardens and the zoo. By boat, bike, tram or on foot, Amsterdam is a delight to explore.
