Popular Lapland Adventure FAQ's
The top resorts to visit in Lapland include Levi, Ylläs, Phya and Saariselkä. Our 4 resorts across Finland all ensure you will have the most magical Lapland experience. Stay above the Arctic Circle where you can soak in the sights of the wilderness, enjoy the full Finnish sauna experience, search for the Northern Lights or curl up by the fire.
Yes, the Northern Lights can be seen in Lapland, however it isn't guaranteed. With its position within the Arctic Circle and clear winter skies, Lapland offers excellent opportunities to witness this natural phenomenon.
For over 20 years, Inghams has worked closely with local tour operators to ensure our guests receive the best value winter excursions in Lapland, including husky, reindeer and horse-riding excursions, a snowmobile safari, ice activities, skiing, meeting Santa Claus, and of course, searching for the Northern Lights.
Yes, with an average of 200 days of fresh snowfall each year between November and May, Finland has some of the best snow-sure resorts due to their location in the Arctic Circle. Inghams offer 3 great resorts for you to choose from. Skiing in Lapland is perfect for families and beginners looking for gentle slopes, and for those looking to try something a little different, cross country skiing is available in all four resorts - Levi, Ylläs, Phya & Saariselkä.
Yes, Inghams offers a variety of family-friendly accommodation options in Lapland. From cosy cabins to spacious hotels, there are accommodations suitable for families of all sizes. Plus, there are so many fun activities to see and do when you are on a family holiday to Lapland, so you can make the most of your holiday.
Both Levi and Ylläs are above the Arctic Circle, so it is essential to bring the right clothing to make sure that you and your children are kept warm and happy throughout your visit. All guests will receive thermal suits and boots free of charge, but please make sure you bring cosy woollen socks, gloves, thermal underclothes, hats and a scarf or balaclava to cover your face if necessary with you! We also recommend you also bring some additional mittens or gloves (ideally waterproof ones for children’s snow play) to be worn next to the skin. Layers are the key to keeping warm here and are far more effective than one or two thick items, so the thermals, a shirt or roll-neck fleece and a jacket/anorak under your suit when outdoors is recommended.
Yes. This is the most efficient way to obtain clothing for this trip as these may not be something you already own and may not be something you use again. Therefore hiring your base layers is not only the perfect solution but it is also more environmentally friendly. Inghams Lapland is in partnership with EcoSki who are a fantastic ski clothing company who hire out items of all styles, sizes and fashion. Read more about EcoSki on how they started and why it makes sense to rent. They offer everything from Thermals, Fleece Jackets, Salopettes to hats and gloves so you can source everything from one place for all of your travel group.
Due to Finlands limited day-light hours, most skiing is done under flood-lit slopes so you can enjoy the runs even in the dark.
Yes, though Lapland isn't the biggest area for skiing and snowboarding. Some of the resorts do have good areas for snowboarders such as Yllas has 2 snowparks and Saariselka has 2 freestyle parks.
