Beginner skiing and snowboarding
New to the slopes? Whistler is a fantastic place to start your adventure on the snow. With almost 50 gentle green runs spread across the mountain, there’s loads of space to find your feet. Perfect those first turns and build your confidence without ever feeling thrown in at the deep end.
Whistler’s ski schools are brilliant too, with group and private lessons running throughout the season for both adults and children. Whether it’s your first time clipping into skis or you want to experience the slopes on a snowboard, you’ll be in good hands.
For the easiest cruising terrain, head up the Whistler Village Gondola or Fitzsimmons Express to Olympic Station. This quieter area is packed with wide beginner-friendly slopes and designated slow zones, making it a great spot to practice before exploring more of the mountains.
Intermediate skiing and snowboarding
If you’re happiest carving your way down cruisy blue runs with mountain views all around, Whistler is going to be right up your street. Intermediate skiers and snowboarders are seriously spoilt for choice in Whistler and Blackcomb as there's more than 100 blue pistes to explore.
The beauty of skiing in Whistler is that you can keep things relaxed or push yourself a little further whenever you fancy. Many of the blue runs naturally lead into short black sections, ideal for building your confidence or levelling up your skills without diving straight into the steep stuff.
Looking to improve your technique? Head to the fantastic ski school and learn to ace those smooth carving turns you see seasoned skiers pulling off.
Advanced skiing and snowboarding
For advanced skiers and boarders, Whistler is where things get seriously exciting. Massive terrain, steep bowls, legendary backcountry and over 50 black runs make this one of North America’s ultimate big-mountain playgrounds.
Whistler is also famous for its off-piste and backcountry terrain, so there’s endless opportunities for adventurous skiers and snowboarders looking to get their heart racing. And did you know that Whistler holds the record for the most ski and rideable terrain out of all of the North American resorts? Well, now you do.
Ride the Peak Express chairlift for access to some of Whistler Mountain’s most iconic steep terrain, powder bowls and adrenaline-pumping descents. Over on Blackcomb, the 7th Heaven area serves up incredible high alpine skiing with jaw-dropping views to match. Head up the 7th Heaven chair lift to see it for yourself!
Off piste, Freestyle and terrain parks
For the bravest skiers and boarders out there who love nothing more than to show off their skills on the mountain, there are some fantastic freestyle parks across the Whistler and Blackcomb mountains, a variety of kickers, rails and boxes for an array of different abilities.
There is a real culture of freestyle skiing across the Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains with lessons available to those who want to push their advanced skiing ability a little bit further.
Freestyle and terrain parks across Whistler and Blackcomb come in a ranking system of S, M, L and XL. S being the smallest, offers the best features for those getting started with freestyle, while XL is the largest and definitely not for the faint-hearted.
Helmets and a high level of ability are mandatory in all parks.
If backflips and 360’s don’t really sound like your thing, you can always pause to watch the skiers and boarders show off their moves at the Fire and Ice Show: an eccentric show of music, dance, fire and skiing! Located at the Whistler Village plaza, this is an exhilarating stunt show that runs every Sunday during the peak season.
Cross-country skiing and snowboarding
Whistler isn’t just about downhill skiing either. After hosting the Nordic events during the 2010 Winter Olympics, the resort became one of Canada’s top cross-country destinations. There’s over 130km of scenic trails to explore, winding through snowy forests, past peaceful lakes and stunning mountain scenery.
Whistler Olympic Park offers more than 90km of groomed tracks, while Lost Lake Park (just a few steps from the village) has another 30km of beautiful trails right on your doorstep. Perfect for a slower-paced mountain adventure or a break from the busy ski slopes.

Discover Whistler
Rated again and again as North America’s best ski resort, Whistler truly has it all. Over 200 trails spread between two peaks (Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains) and linked by the famous Peak2Peak gondola, the resort has become the pride and joy of Canada’s Pacific North West. Whistler Blackcomb offers more choice than nearly any other mountain destination in the world, with a combination of adrenaline-pumping descents and incredible scenery.
And the scale of the place is seriously impressive. With more than 200 runs and over 8,000 acres of skiable terrain, there’s something here for absolutely everyone. You'll have the chance to explore 16 alpine bowls, 3 glaciers and some world-class terrain parks. Whistler is also home to one of the longest and most reliable winter seasons, so you're in for some great snow!
The skiing and snowboarding are world-class and suit all needs: beginners can cruise wide, confidence-boosting greens and blues, intermediates have endless scenic runs to explore and advanced skiers can dive straight into steep bowls and deep powder.
Proudly named the ‘Best Family Ski Resort’ in 2023, the resort goes above and beyond for younger skiers, with dedicated family zones and fun adventure areas. Little ones will love the Whistler Kids Snow School, the enchanted Tree Fort and the Magic Castle, while you can relax knowing there’s plenty to keep everyone smiling both on and off the mountain.
If you’re travelling all the way to Canada’s west coast, it’s definitely worth pairing your ski trip with a stay in Vancouver. Surrounded by mountains and ocean, this vibrant city is the perfect contrast to your time in the snow. Spend a few days exploring waterfront neighbourhoods, incredible food spots and famous sights before or after your Whistler adventure for the ultimate city-and-ski escape.
Supercharge your Whistler trip with a stay in vibrant Vancouver, catch a live Canucks ice hockey game, feast on fresh local flavours from Granville Island, and dive into the city’s buzzing nightlife and waterfront energy. It’s the ultimate way to kick off or round off your Canadian adventure.
The food scene is every bit as impressive as its skiing. From fine dining at the Bearfoot Bistro, Alto Bistro or Hy’s Steakhouse, through to the smaller, cheap-and-cheerful lunches offered at the Thunderbird café and La Cantina.
And whilst you’re in British Columbia, trying Canada’s famous ice wine is practically a rite of passage. Made from grapes frozen naturally on the vine, this sweet dessert wine is rich, smooth and uniquely Canadian – it can’t be made in many places, so definitely try it here!
Once the lifts close, the village comes alive with bustling bars, slopeside drinks, live music and those late-night dance floors that keep the energy going – and Whistler knows how to après.
One of the most iconic spots is Dusty’s Bar & BBQ, a legendary après venue that’s been part of Whistler since the 1970s, located at the base of the Creekside Gondola (can be accessed by the Lower Peak to Creek blue slope from the top of Whistler Mountain).
If you’re still going strong after dinner, Whistler’s nightlife won’t disappoint. Garfinkel’s and Moe Joe’s are favourites for late-night dancing, themed nights and guest DJs, with party vibes that carry on well into the early hours.
Need a new ski jacket? Forgot your gloves? Or just fancy a little holiday shopping spree? Whistler Village has plenty to browse, from big-name outdoor brands like The North Face and Salomon to stylish boutiques, local artisan shops and souvenir stores filled with authentic Canadian gifts.
You’ll also find plenty of stores selling Canadian First Nations artwork and crafts, giving you the chance to take home something truly unique from your trip to Canada.
As fun as the mountains are, sometimes your legs deserve a little recovery time, too. Luckily, Whistler is brilliant for slowing things down and recharging after a big day on the slopes.
Looking for a slice of heaven for your tired ski legs? Head to the famous Scandinave Spa. It’s tucked away in peaceful forest surroundings just outside the village and is home to steaming outdoor hot pools, Scandinavian-inspired thermal experiences, cold plunges and complete mountain tranquillity. Pure bliss.
If yoga is more your thing, enjoy a spot of yoga in Yogacara Whistler, in the heart of the village.
When you want to explore further than the slopes, the resort is home to a vibrant arts and culture scene, with galleries, museums and cultural experiences dotted throughout the village.
A must-visit is the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre, where you can learn about the history, traditions and culture of the Squamish and Lil’wat Nations through exhibitions, workshops, storytelling and events.
Whistler’s events calendar is packed throughout the winter season, too. Food lovers should check out Cornucopia in November – a huge celebration of British Columbia’s food and drink scene featuring wine tastings, gourmet dinners and culinary events across the resort.
January brings the famous Pride and Ski Festival, one of the world’s biggest LGBTQ+ ski festivals, filling the village with colourful events, parties, skiing and an incredible atmosphere.
And to round off the season, April’s World Ski & Snowboard Festival (WSSF) combines spring skiing, live music, competitions, art and well-loved après into one huge mountain celebration that perfectly captures Whistler’s fun-loving spirit.
