Zermatt is surrounded by the dramatic peaks of some of Europe’s highest mountains, including the Dom, Monte Rosa and the magnificent Matterhorn. This natural ski paradise has one of the longest ski seasons in the Alps and a reliable snow record. The ski area is perfect for intermediate skiers with a vast range of satisfying reds, and experts love the ‘Triftji Bumps’ mogul field, Schwarzsee’s steep gullies and the black runs in the Stockhorn area. The village is traffic-free, apart from small electric carts and horse-drawn sleighs, and there’s lots for the non-skier to do - winter walking, snow-shoeing, ice-skating and a good selection of shops. Excellent mountain restaurants abound and the après-ski in Zermatt is lively and varied with something to suit all tastes.
