Following last week’s announcement on the discontinuation of the minimum exchange rate, UK tour operator Inghams is reassuring travellers looking to visit Switzerland that they can still enjoy the quality travel experiences the destination has to offer with unchanged basic ski holiday prices this season and by taking advantage of ‘Inghams Plus’ added value offers in order to reduce in-resort spend. In addition, the tour operator’s Switzerland summer prices are frozen until the end of February 2015.
Customers who have already booked their Inghams ski holiday to Switzerland have been able to minimise their in-resort Swiss Franc by taking advantage of the ‘Inghams Plus’ added value offers, offered by the majority of Inghams’ Swiss partner hotels and not available to independent travellers. All those travelling to the Inghams’ Chalet Hotel de Verbier for example, will benefit from having a hot breakfast, afternoon tea, five-course dinners and unlimited wine included ensuring the in-resort Swiss Franc spend is kept right down to no more than just lunch costs and there is still availability for March and April skiers this season.
In addition, many skiers have already safeguarded themselves against this sudden currency swing by pre-purchasing all their lift passes, ski-school and ski/snowboard-rental in sterling from Inghams in advance, thereby securing the favourable pre-15th January exchange rate.
Hugh Walton, Inghams Executive Director said, ‘Looking ahead, this sudden change underlines the value of booking early with an established tour operator so that the currency rate is secured by our forward-buying capability. For example, whilst we cannot avoid the effect on ski-pack items, we can confirm that we are freezing our current winter season basic holiday prices for Switzerland at the ‘old’, significantly better exchange rates, saving guests approximately 18% off all their accommodation and transfer costs.’
For summer Lakes & Mountains guests to Switzerland, like most tour operators Inghams has not yet purchased 100% of its summer currency requirements, so once the pre-purchased fund runs out, the tour operator will then have to adjust prices to the new rate. However, Inghams has confirmed it has enough Swiss Francs safely banked at the better exchange rate to keep pre-15th January Swiss summer holiday prices frozen until the end of February 2015, providing travellers with a last chance to book a Swiss holiday at the ‘old’ exchange rate, as well as taking advantage of Inghams’ early booking offers including the free half-price Swiss Travel Card (worth £100 per person and included free with every Inghams Lakes & Mountains Switzerland holiday), plus free excursions and free daily packed lunches.
