“Although we have operated in Lapland for 18 years already, and are the established market leaders for Lapland skiing” noted Inghams CEO, Andy Perrin, “this is the first time we have highlighted all the other inspiring adventures and experiences that you can enjoy north of the Arctic Circle. This dedicated new brochure and website aim to shine a well deserved spotlight on these increasingly popular ‘snow holidays for non-skiers’.”
Responding partly to increased interest in the Northern Lights – “a staple of many people’s travel bucket-lists” according to Perrin – as well as the growing trend for enjoying new and thrilling experiences whilst on holiday, this brochure highlights Inghams’ ‘Top Ten Snow Adventures’ in two regions of northern Scandinavia.
Finnish Lapland Wilderness Adventures
On offer in Finnish Lapland is the chance to escape daily routines and the relentless stress and rush of modern life, and to ‘recharge the batteries’ by exploring the National Park wilderness in a multitude of different ways.
Favourite activities include husky and reindeer safaris, snowmobile adventures both in daytime or evening trips in search of the Northern Lights, and overnight stays in glass igloos or the Lainio SnowHotel. For the novice or improver, Lapland is also an ideal place to learn cross-country skiing, and for experienced cross-country fans, all the chosen resorts have over 200 kms of ski-trails. Downhill skiers can enjoy uncrowded pistes and modern lift systems in Levi and Ylläs, and snow-shoeing with an expert guide is an alternative way of exploring the terrain.
Accommodation is offered in three selected resorts. Levi is Finnish Lapland’s top resort, whilst Saariselkä and Ylläs are smaller, offering all the activities in an unspoiled ‘winter wonderland’ atmosphere. Over 80 properties range from traditional log cabins to modern self-catering apartment, and 3- and 4-star hotels on half board, many with leisure and spa facilities.
Inghams offers 3- and 4- night short breaks in December 2015, and 7-night holidays from December to April, with direct, non-stop flights from Gatwick, Manchester and Bristol. 7-night prices start from £499 per person self-catering on 17th January 2016 from Manchester at the new 4-star Kelotähti Apartments in Saariselkä, based on four sharing (price for two sharing: £555).
New – Explorer Tours in Northern Norway
The brochure also introduces two new Explorer Tours in Northern Norway, served by new Inghams-exclusive charter flights in March 2016 from Gatwick to Evenes. The region shares many features with Finnish Lapland, including the chances to explore snow-covered scenery, see the Northern Lights, meet the local Sámi people, and try husky-sledding. But the fjord region offers additional dimensions too, so these breaks also include elements such as a high-speed RIB-boat safari, a 3-hour Hurtigruten cruise, a scenic rail journey into neighbouring Sweden, and a visit to Norway’s Polar Wildlife Park .
The ‘Island & Fjord Adventure’ and ‘Polar Express Adventure’ are both available in 3- or 4-day versions, and can also be combined into one full week’s holiday.
There are five departures in March 2016, with prices starting from £799 per person for the 3-night Polar Express Adventure, including direct non-stop flights from Gatwick to Evenes, transfers, 4-star hotel accommodation on half board and all excursions and entrance fees. .
