Winter in Whistler means fun for families!

People think that Whistler  is a resort for hardcore skiers and boarders and this of course is true as it offers a very vast terrain and some extreme slopes but it also offers facilities for the whole family…

The Inghams Team in Whistler arrange a whole variety of family friendly activities for instance on their Beginners Cruiser Snowmobile Tours children under 12 are absolutely free – ideal for both keeping everyone entertained and of course, the purse strings!

After the mountain has closed, Whistler hosts two special family friendly afternoons every week, Monday and Wednesday from 4.00-6.00 pm. The activities they organise vary from week to week but almost always consists of free hot chocolate for kids and parents; free popcorn, free candy floss and marshmallows which as you can imagine, goes down very well indeed. Games are organized with prizes and there is usually a DJ and local singer/entertainer. Resort staff even dress up as fairies and snowmen to add to the atmosphere…

In the background, children can use the Snowzone area free of charge – great fun where kids can toboggan down a fantastic little snow hill. Or families can go ice skating on the open air rink. This is free if you have you own skates or just $5 to hire skates and you can warm up or drink your hot chocolate by the open fire there! There is also a children’s playground on site to keep the little tots happy!

Other great family events are tubing at the official Tubing Park which houses 6 lanes of varying steepnesses and is open daily on Blackcomb Mountain from 11.00 – 6.00 pm. There are special family rates available. Tubing is a more gentle version of tobogganing in the alps where you pick up your tube or rubber tyre, take a ride on the magic carpet to the top of the slope then sit in the tube and tube down spiraling all the way. If you want to speed up the experience, each family member sits in their own tube and you hold onto each other and come down together!

These are just some of the fantastic activities available for families in Whistler!
