  • Great value Austrian twins* with bath or shower and balcony are also available in traditional Austrian guesthouses in close proximity to the Hotel Harfenwirt (up to 7 minutes’ walk, on a bed and breakfast basis only).

*In certain locations, a twin is commonly accepted as referring to two separate mattresses and duvets contained in one large frame. Most hotels have rooms that will take an extra bed if required. These extra beds may be bunk beds, fold-away beds or sofa beds, but the suitability of these beds may depend on each individual. Where an extra bed is added this may limit the space available. Rooms with extra beds are still bookable for two person occupancy although, in this case, the hotelier may allocate a standard-sized twin bedded room without extra beds. Single rooms do not always match up either in size or facilities to twin bedded rooms, even when a supplement is paid.

All our guests receive a free Wildschönau Resort Card (from 18 May 2019) giving you loads of freebies, including free use of all lifts in the Wildschonau & Alpbach valley. The Markbachjoch gondola in the centre of Niederau gives you access to miles of marked trails through lovely rolling hills.

Things to do in resort

Once you have taken the gondola up to the top of Markbachjoch (1,496 metres) there are many routes down with clearly marked paths, including the “Path of Contemplation” to Oberau, a one-hour walk which passes the Farmers’ Museum at Bach. There are many mountain alms dotted around including the “Kasealm” above Niedrau, and the more adventurous amongst you might want to try a spot of hand-gliding! If you prefer more traditional transport, a bus service operates along the whole valley, enabling you to make the most of this scenic region.
