Ratings/reviewsClick for full ratings

The Grand Hotel Minerva sits in a prime location in the centre of Florence, right on the edge of the popular Piazza di Santa Maria Novella looking out towards the stunning Dominican Basilica of Santa Maria Novell and is just a ten-minute stroll from the Duomo. The building itself has a rich history, with humble beginnings as a hostel for pilgrims. It underwent a transformation in the 1950’s when the celebrated Italian architect Carlo Scarpa remodeled the interior with his careful balance of materials in his distinctive style. Some of these features are still recognisable today, seen in pieces of his custom designed furniture that sit amidst the now mod-retro décor.

The hotel provides an oasis right in the heart of the bustling city. High up above the buzz of the Piazza is a rooftop terrace with a pool (open April to October) and bar (open May to September) where you can enjoy an aperitivo with panoramic views over the city. During the summer months the terrace, equipped with sun loungers, is the perfect spot for a bit of relaxation by the pool. Relax in the comfortable and spacious rooms that are decorated in a fresh contemporary style.

When it comes to food and drink at the Grand Hotel Minerva you'll be spoiled for choice. Enjoy a buffet breakfast with delicious traditional Tuscan pastries, whilst overlooking the atrium garden. The hotels La Buona Novella restaurant serves freshly produced and locally sourced ingredients to create delicious Italian delicacies. In the summer months we’d recommend dining outside on the large terrace that extends onto the beautiful piazza.

Florence

The Tuscan capital of Florence is a city made by art lovers for art lovers. The Renaissance took its first steps here in the 15th century, painting the city with architectural wonders like the Palazzo Pitti and Uffizi Gallery.

Climb to the top of Florence Cathedral – Il Duomo – to admire a skyline sculpted from Gothic towers, domes and terracotta rooftops. That’s where you’ll also discover how small Florence is. Best explored by foot, you can easily wander the UNESCO-listed city centre in a day.

Had your fill of Michelangelos and da Vincis? It’s time to explore Florence’s other love – food. Finish off your day with a Florentine steak or settle down with a glass of Chianti sourced straight from the Tuscan countryside.
