Ratings/reviewsClick for full ratings

Hotel Astoria has a great lakeside position in Campagnola Bay – an area known for its surfing and beaches. Grab your towel and find a spot next to the lake or head to the water and try your hand at wind surfing, kite surfing or even paddle boarding. Malcesine’s centre is about three kilometres away. Get there on the footpath and cycle route that runs along the eastern shore of the lake – the hotel has bikes for hire. There’s also a tourist bus every hour (payable locally, approx. €1.20).

The hotel is quite traditional but the rooms are very spacious. They face towards the gardens or pool but we recommend upgrading to a lake view if you can. Some of the best views are from the terrace and this is where the evening aperitifs are served. Dinner is something to look forward to here with fresh fish from the lake and olive oil from the local groves.

Transfer time: approx. 1 hour 30 mins by coach from Verona airport.

Malcesine

Malcesine has a lot going for it and it’s perfect for anyone seeking an active holiday. It’s in the north of the lake so you’ve got lots of mountain trails to explore. The cable car goes straight from the town to the top of Monte Baldo, which is a starting point for lots of walk and cycles. The views from up here are incredible so we won’t blame you if you just want to sit and enjoy them instead. The town’s also big on watersports – you can try your hand at sailing or paddle boarding.

Malcesine is one of Lake Garda’s most recognisable resorts. Its beautiful 13th century castle makes it easy to spot from the water. If you go and take a closer look you’ll be rewarded with some pretty impressive lake views. They often have weddings here so you can imagine how romantic it is. The rest of Malcesine feels just as romantic thanks to the little cobbled streets and charming cafés. There’s a long promenade from the southern end of the town where you can walk for a few miles along the lake. There’s a busy ferry port too so you can head to some nearby towns like Limone or Riva very easily.
