A series of verandas, terraces, mature gardens and fountains make up the back drop for Alassio, its eclectic mix of historic architecture tumbles down to the town beach which is one of the best in this area with a wide swathe of gently sloping bronze-grey sand, it can get busy near the town but it stretches for 2.5 miles to the west so there is plenty of space to spread out.
The towns promenade looks over the beach and is a favourite 'passegiatta' for people out for a stroll working up an appetite before retiring to one of the many seafood trattorias
The town has a mix of old and new, the narrow streets of the old town are great to explore with it variety of shops both modern and old, search out the art galleries that exhibit a range of international artists who have been residents in the town dating back to the 1800's and show the town in its full rural innocence.
Inland from Alassio there is a series of small villages and hamlets perched in the cliffs and woodland, with lanes that burrow there way through the countryside, head out for lunch and try some of the local specialities that include piedmontese beef.
