If it’s a beach-front location you’re after, you can’t go wrong with Grand Hotel Spiaggia. It certainly lives up to its name with a prime spot on Alassio’s promenade and overlooking the sandy beach. Grab a lounger here and relax next to the waves. The beach is private so it payable locally but it’s worth the expense as Liguria is known for its beaches. There’s a bar there serving drinks and snacks so once you’ve settled, you won’t have to leave. Or even want to.
The hotel itself has been recently upgraded so you can expect modern rooms with wooden floors. Our favourite place to go is the restaurant. It’s on the sixth floor so you get some amazing, panoramic views from here. There’s nothing better than sitting down to a plate of freshly-cooked fish and gazing out to the sea.
The hotel’s location means it’s easy to explore Alassio and further afield. The town’s centre is about a ten-minute walk away and there’s plenty to do there. The train station is another five minutes away and there’s regular trains that run along the coast. Head to the renowned casino town of Sanremo, or go one better and spend the day in Monaco – it’s less than two hours by train.
Transfer time: approx. 1 hour 15 mins from Genoa and 1 hour 35 mins from Nice. Private transfers included.
