Things to do in and around Ortisei
- Bolzano or Brixen by bus, takes 1½ hrs but it’s worth it
- Visit nearby Ortisei for shops, museums, churches
- Climbing tours and courses
There is a pedestrianised shopping area here, and the local heritage museum and the Church of St Jacob are well worth a visit. The active programme offers a range of free walks and activities. As well having its own walking area, Alpe di Siusi, Ortisei is linked to the Gardena valley and serious walkers may want to purchase the Val Gardena Card the unlimited use of local transport and lifts.
Walking in Ortisei 1,560-2,518m
Ortisei is a mecca for walkers of all levels, from easy strolls close to the villages to challenging high-level treks in the Dolomites. Serious walkers may purchase the Val Gardena card (2012 €78, 6 days & €61, 3 days) which gives unlimited of use local public transport and lifts.
Independent walking: Your representatives can suggest many walks. Excellent walking maps are available locally. Here are some suggestions:
- Follow the old railway line, a 9km ramble down to Ortisei. The town is well worth a visit. Perhaps catch the bus back.
- Walk around Vallunga and up to Pra da Ri, where the Golden Eagle nest every year
- Explore the Alpe di Siusi from Ortisei & Selva – a meadow plateau, a wildflower paradise
Guided Tourist Board walks: Through the Selva & Ortisei Active programmes, casual walkers can enjoy a full programme of guided walks. They are free to Inghams guests in all hotels. There is something every day, including Sunrise Walks, Sunset Walks, Nature Rambles, walks in the Puez-Odle National Park, Alpine meadow explorations.
The Selva Active programme offers many other activities: mountain biking, cookery lessons, Nordic walking tasters and excursions, visits to local stables, rock climbing for beginners, Yoga etc. Usually free. Pick up a booklet in resort.

Cortina & WW1 Trenches | Moderate | Full day | £40
A wonderful day out in Cortina and the Cinque Torri area. Firstly we visit Cortina with its charming centre and then travel by coach to the Cinque Torri area and take the chairlift* to the feet of these beautiful Dolomite towers. After lunch we walk through the WW1 trenches to discover the events of the war in the part of Italy.
*Cinque Torri chairlift not included - one way €8 / return €11.
Bindelweg & 4 Valleys | Slightly Challenging / Full day / £37
Enjoy the gentle descent through the Sotto Guda gorge with its cascading waterfalls and enjoy the majestic peaks of the Dolomites. If you don’t fancy the walk you can take the cable-car up to the top of the Pordoi Pass before taking a coach to rejoin the walkers at Lake Fedaia.
