One of the many great things about the Excelsior Palace hotel is its location - you’ll find yourself about fifty metres from Taormina's pedestrianised main street, Corso Umberto. So it’s really central and in this amazing position on the headland so you’ll have views over the Ionian Sea and back inland towards Mount Etna. If you can, upgrade to an Elegance Room, where you’re guaranteed to be waking up to sea views each morning. The rooms are in keeping with the historic hotel building and have a kind of old world charm. A stepped path leads down through terraced gardens to the pool. From here there are fantastic views of the Taormina coastline. When you’re not exploring Taormina, this is the perfect spot to relax with a good book.
Taormina’s a really vibrant place to explore, with loads of little treasure trove like shops, beautiful old churches and the ancient Greek Teatro Antico di Taormina. There are lots of nice restaurants and cafes close to the hotel, but if you’d like to dine listening to the sounds of the sea then the gondola that links Taormina to Taormina Mare is just a short stroll away. We enjoyed walking down on a balmy evening and just hopping on the gondola back up to town once we had indulged in our fair share of tasty Sicilian food. The hotel has a nice bar area with comfy sofas where you can have a nightcap before bed. It’s an impressively large hotel, inside a building with loads of history, but the team here make you feel really at home.
