Elizabeth, Carlo and Claudia describe their hotel as ‘small and individual’. They’ve ran Piccolo Hotel Claudia for the past twenty years, updating the building and décor, tending to their guests every need and choosing the perfect menu – to create this beautiful home away from home. It’s in a quiet part of the village of San Vigilio di Merebbe, on the border of the woods – just imagine inhaling that fresh mountain air and the smell of the pines.

The hotel itself is really nicely decorated, it has that classic mountain lodge feel, but with fresh modern touches. They’ve thought about the detail here - in rooms the floors are made from the local fir wood and the curtains are made by artisans in the region. It’s a great base for those after an active holiday with loads of opportunity for hiking, climbing, mountain biking and e-biking, all on your doorstep. There’s something to suit everyone. The Pedagà-Piz de Plaies cable car is just 80 metres from the property, which takes you up to the Cianross summit – enjoy the jaw dropping views of the peaks from up here.

After all of these activities it’s nice to be able to come back to relax at the hotel, they have a small wellness centre, with a sauna and Turkish bath. It’s a good way to soothe any achy muscles. In the evening you'll have a lovely dining experience in the restaurant, where they use local, organic ingredients. The menu has been carefully thought out by the owners and they’re proud to use family recipes that have been passed down through the generations.

Plan de Corones

Summers in the Dolomites are special - take a trip to Plan de Corones, known as Kronplatz, to see for yourself. Our hotels are based in San Vigilio di Merebbe, a small village on the edge of the UNESCO World Heritage Fanes-Sennes-Prags National Park. It's full of well-marked walking and cycling trails and some pretty jaw dropping views. There's plenty of other outdoor activities to give a try too, you'll find everything from paragliding to zip lining.

There is something for everyone here - it's perfect for a relaxing holiday were you can soak up nature. The lifts run in the summer, so you can reach the high peaks and their spectacular views even if you're not here to hike. Once you're in the mountains you're bound to stumble upon traditional refugio's where they serve some of the tastiest local Ladin and South Tyrolean cuisine. The region is famous for its food with influences from Italy, Austria and Switserland. Canederli - bread dumplings with local speck ham and cheese - are our favourite lunchtime snack in the mountains.

Hotel Piccolo Claudia Restaurant

The food here has deep roots in local tradition, the recipes have been passed down through the owner’s family from generation to generation. Over the years they have continuously, shaped their menu, experimenting with new ingredients and flavours. You really feel the passion that’s gone into the cooking - they get a real joy out of sharing their culinary creations. We really like the fact that they try to use as much locally sourced ingredients as possible, so things like the cheeses, butter and yoghurt are all made from the goat and cow’s milk from their own pastures and the bread is made from local grains. You’ve got to try the Speck Alto Adige too, its regions delicious cured ham. They really know their wines here and have a fantastic cellar full of the best regional Italian wines – so don’t hesitate to ask for recommendations.

The bar is a nice for a pre or post dinner drink in a cosy homely atmosphere.
