Ripa Relais has a very peaceful location in the Umbrian countryside. There’s only 16 rooms here too so you’re almost guaranteed a relaxing holidays. The rooms are all spread out throughout the grounds in four ancient farm buildings that have been restored to create a comfy space. Expect wrought-iron beds, wooden beams and locally-made furniture.

The gardens are very well maintained and they’re a lovely spot to just sit and enjoy the views. There’s a pool here too so you can cool off if it gets warm. The spa is a lovely facility so try and spend a couple of hours here if you can – there’s a whirlpool, sauna and steam room. We love the restaurant here, it has some amazing Umbrian food to try. The menu changes seasonally to make the most of locally-sourced ingredients – expect to see truffles, local cheese, beef sourced from Tuscany and olive oil made from the hotel’s own trees.

We recommend hiring a car when you stay here so you can get out and about to explore Umbria. The region’s capital, Perugia, is only a half an hour’s drive away and Assisi is only 20 minutes.

Car hire is recommended for this hotel. SINA Brufani is approx. 2 hours 15 mins from Rome airport

Umbria

A holiday to Umbria is your chance to slow down and really experience la dolce vita. This central region is the green heart of Italy, so expect working villages that live life at a peaceful pace.

In fact, even the cities take things easy. Assisi balances on a hilltop covered in churches, including the gothic Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi. The National Gallery of Umbria idles in Perugia’s Palazzo dei Priori. And the medieval town of Gubbio serves up sweeping views of the Apennines from its cable car.

Wherever you decide to stay in Umbria, great wine (try a glass or two of Montefalco) and hearty homecooked food (think truffles, porcetta and pecorino) are guaranteed.

Inghams operate a telephone Rep service in Umbria.
