Starting in the historic city of Bergen with its bustling fishmarket and historic ‘Bryggen’ wharf, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You’ll also be able to enjoy a wonderful city view from the top of the Fløiban funicular before transferring by scenic express boat along the coast to the small idyllic fjordside village of Balestrand on the mighty Sognefjord, the longest and deepest in Norway. From here, a day excursion to Myrdal, first by boat cruise to Flåm, then continuing on the historic cog railway, is included in the price of your holiday.
Travalling onwards via the magical Gauler mountains to Loen on the Nordfjord, from where the fabulous glacial arms of the Jøstaldal ice plateau, the biggest in Europe, are most easily accessible. Your last nights will be in the vibrant city of Ålesund on the Atlantic coast with its beautiful surrounding islands and Art Nouveau centre - unique opportunities await you!
Day 1 (Monday) | Fly to Bergen for a short minibus transfer to this colourful harbour city. Explore the old Bryggen wharf area with its many galleries, museums, thriving fish and flower markets. Or visit one of the classical concerts, the large park and gardens or the Fløiban funicular railway for stunning views. Purchase a 24 or 48-hour Bergen Card to make the most of your stay (pay locally from £24)
Day 3 (Wednesday) | A glorious 4-hour express boat transfer to the picturesque and idyllic village of Balestrand on the scenic Sognefjord through lovely coastal island scenery. Once in Balestrand, you have chance to stroll or cycle along this picturesque fjord or head up Fjaerlandfjord to the Jøstedal Glacier. An excursion to Flåm and its famous cog railway
which takes you past impressive valleys and waterfalls to Myrdal and back is also a must from here and included in the price of your holiday.
Day 6 (Saturday) | Continuing by bus inland through the mystical landscape of the Gauler mountains and along the Nordfjord to Loen - the place where fjords and glaciers meet. Here you find glittering emerald lakes and wonderful walking terrain for all abilities in the surrounding areas of the ice-blue glacial arms of the Lødal and Briksdal valleys. Get
up close to the impressive, awe-inspiring Jøstedalsbreen - Europe’s biggest ice plateau. For the glacier walks, walking boots or sturdy footwear is recommended. The Hotel Alexandra also has excellent spa and wellness facilities for those wishing to simply relax and take in the scenery. by the picturesque river.
Day 9 (Tuesday) | Transfer by minibus to the Atlantic city of Ålesund at the mouth of the Fjords. Your journey from Loen takes you via the beautiful Geiranger Fjord with a stop at the Dalsnibba viewpoint for that iconic shot - don’t forget the camera! Once in Ålesund, explore the city sights including its Art Nouveau architecture on a guided tour, or take one of the boat trips
out to the surrounding islands, visit one of the pretty nearby lighthouse at Ålnes for coastal walks or take an unforgettable RIB boat trip to Runde, the stunning ‘bird island’.
