*In certain locations, a twin is commonly accepted as referring to two separate mattresses and duvets contained in one large frame. Most hotels have rooms that will take an extra bed if required. These extra beds may be bunk beds, fold-away beds or sofa beds, but the suitability of these beds may depend on each individual. Where an extra bed is added this may limit the space available. Rooms with extra beds are still bookable for two person occupancy although, in this case, the hotelier may allocate a standard-sized twin bedded room without extra beds. Single rooms do not always match up either in size or facilities to twin bedded rooms, even when a supplement is paid.

A quiet resort in the unspoilt Wildschönau Valley, picturesque Niederau houses a pretty church and friendly cafés and is a superb base for a walking holiday. All our guests receive a free Wildschönau Resort Card (from 13 May 2017) giving you loads of freebies, including free use of all lifts in the Wildshonau & Alpbach valley. The Markbachjoch gondola in the centre of Niederau gives you access to miles of marked trails through lovely rolling hills.
Once you have taken the gondola up to the top of Markbachjoch (1,496 metres) there are many routes down with clearly marked paths, including the “Path of Contemplation” to Oberau, a one-hour walk which passes the Farmers’ Museum at Bach. There are many mountain alms dotted around including the “Kasealm” above Niedrau, and the more adventurous amongst you might want to try a spot of hand-gliding! If you prefer more traditional transport, a bus service operates along the whole valley, enabling you to make the most of this scenic region. For a bit of retail therapy, try the nearby town of Wörgl.

Journey via the romantic village of Reit im Winkl to the Chiemsee, known as the “Bavarian Sea”. The Chiemsee is the largest lake in Bavaria. The biggest of several islands on the lake and accessible only by boat is Herrenchiemsee. The name derives from a sumptuous and wildly extravagant palace built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria. Marvel at the richly decorated interior and the stunning grounds all modelled on the Palace of Versailles. A fascinating insight into the world of a truly eccentric King.
