There is no party quite like an après ski party, and us lot over here at Inghams HQ certainly know that better than anyone! Pooling together our expert knowledge of what makes a fantastic party on the slopes (we’ve figured it out- it’s a very delicate formula of beer+(snow÷sunshine)² … something along those lines) we’ve compiled this handy Insider’s Guide to some of the best, not to be missed festivals gracing the mountains this season.
Snowbombing- Mayrhofen, Austria
Rock the Pistes- Portes du Soleil, France
Snowboxx- Avoriaz, France
RISE Festival- Les Deux Alpes, France
World Ski & Snowboarding Festival- Whistler, Canada
Altitude- Mayrhofen, Austria
Momentum Ski Festival- Verbier, Switzerland
With a toe-tapping and finger clicking line up for 2016, Snowbombing is once again back to grace the slopes of Mayrhofen in Austria with some of the best, chart-topping musicians and acts of the year. The festival, which began in the year 2000, is a fabulous showcase of international contemporary and modern music, with Biffy Clyro, Calvin Harris, Chase & Status, Dizzee Rascal, Fatboy Slim performing there over the years.
2016 will be featuring the likes of The Prodigy, Craig David, Mark Ronson and Bastille as headliners, so guests are in for a real treat! Spread across several different venues in the town of Mayrhofen, you might find yourself dancing in the underground tennis courts converted into a club (conveniently named ‘The Racket Club’!), and the next day you could be trying out your moves in a futuristic igloo at the Arctic Disco!
The festival lasts for a week, with skiing and snowboarding across the resort during the day and music of numerous different genres being played across a variety of venues at night. It’s a young, fun festival with a little something for everyone.
Enjoy the festival from the comfort of the Sporthotel Strass & Hotel Strass. Fantastic ideal location, right next to the Penken Gondola, the festival and the extensive skiing area is very literally on your door step which makes it extra convenient if you want to stay out late in the evening and not worry about a long walk home.

For those seeking more of an international vibe to their music, you can enjoy a real sense of multiculturalism at the Rock the Pistes festival in the Portes du Soleil ski area. With previous acts such as The Klaxons and Babyshambles, it easy to see why this festival has cultivated quite the reputation! The weeklong festival takes place in all of the different towns across the enormous ski area that sits on the French-Swiss border, with different gigs and events happening in each resort in turn throughout the week.
Part of the charm of the Rock the Pistes is travelling across the large area to hear fresh music every day, across a wide variety of genres, but if you’d prefer to stick to the area close to your home chalet, then you can relax knowing that eventually the festival buzz will come your way. The line up for the event is yet to be announced but we can expect to see the British Charlie Winston, reggae band Dub Inc and the electro pop group The Dø.
However, the entertainment happening in the Portes du Soleil area during this week aren’t limited to just Rock the Pistes, read on to find out more about Snowboxx festival happening in Avoriaz…
Inghams recommends:Stay with Inghams in the Inghams run Chalet Flo in Morzine, the unofficial ‘capital’ of the Portes du Soleil ski area. We offer a shuttle bus service to and from the ski lifts (5 minutes) so you can enjoy the festival from the comfort of the fully catered chalet, that has some wonderful facilities including a steam room and hot tub.
No we haven’t gotten our dates mixed up! Happening during the same week and in the same place as Rock the Pistes festival in Portes du Soleil is the loud and fun Snowboxx festival that attracts a younger crowd who are keen to see the likes of some of the hottest DJs and alternative music producers.
The festival is exclusive to Avoriaz and those who purchase a Snowboxx ticket are welcome to hop around the extensive Portes du Soleil area to catch up with what is happening at Rock the Pistes, but you cannot purchase a Rock the Pistes ticket to access Snowboxx.
There is an exciting line up for this year’s festival, which according to popular reviews, only continues to get bigger and better every single year! Party the night away in secret mountain locations, and in the new ‘festival village’ which is being bought to life for 2016. The lineup welcomes back some popular Snowboxxers, Sigma and Eton Messy, but also with Blonde, Mike Skinner and Stormzy snapping up headline spots for 2016.
Inghams recommends:You can enjoy Snowboxx festival and recover from your impending headaches in the comfort of Chalet Fleurie, in Avoriaz where an Inghams host will take care of all of the cooking and you can refuel before hitting the festival again for another evening. Chalet Fleurie sits in an ideal ski-in-ski-out location and a 2 minute walk from the resort centre. There is even a sauna in the chalet too which is perfect for relaxing in after a long day of skiing in the Portes du Soleil area.
If you are more at home in a bar in Shoreditch where the bass is loud and the good time stretch on into the early hours of the morning, then perhaps RISE Festival is the one for you. Various stages and locations bought to you by the party people who run Ibiza Rocks, Eton Messy, Hospitality & Rinse FM, RISE Festival is guaranteed to be an exciting collaboration of Live Bands and DJ sets in both indoor and outdoor settings, making the most of the natural amphitheatre provided by the mountains.
With après ski parties happening from the top to the bottom of the resort, this year’s festival is headlined by a live DJ set from the drum and bass duo Sigma, supported by Blonde, Skream and Eton Messy. Our Guest Services team member Hazel attended the festival in 2014 and told us: ‘The formula is simple: great atmosphere, great music!’ We’ll take your world for it, Hazel!
Recover from the party at Hotel L’Oree Des Pistes which sits at the heart of the resort and only 50m away from the base of the Jandri Express. This is an excellent value hotel that serves food and drink with ski-in-ski-out facilities, you’ll never miss a second of skiing, snowboarding, and the après fun at RISE Festival.

If you want to truly immerse yourself into skiing and snowboarding culture, then head to the World Ski & Snowboard Festival (WSSF for short), high up in the Rocky Mountains in Whistler, Canada. Arguably one of the grandest festivals in terms of range and size, the festival is not only just a showcase of some of the best athletes in the snow sport world showing off their skills, but also fabulous music gigs, and art and design sideshows to visit.
Watch the World Skiing Invitational where you’ll witness some gravity-defying stunts, and enjoy the Filmmaker and Photography showdown nights as experts put together superb packages for your viewing! Ricky Cull, our Inghams Whistler resort manager reports back about all the exciting goings on at the festival…
The Crystal Lodge sits in the heart of Whistler village and only a two minute walk from the base of the lifts, and it makes an ideal location for skiers and snowboarders who want the best of the both worlds: close and quick access to the slopes, as well as the après ski culture in the village. The hotel even has a heated outdoor swimming pool, hot tub and whirlpool for guests to enjoy.

Don’t we all love a giggle? Brainchild of comedians Andrew Maxwell and Marcus Brigstocke in 2008, Altitude Festival has been the famous faces of funny guys Jimmy Carr, Al Murray, Frankie Boyle, John Bishop, Eddie Izzard and Phil Jupitus picking up the microphone and cracking a joke (or two). Combining standup comedy with skiing and snowboarding, they say a festival is only as good as its setting… and where could be a better than the panoramic outlook from the mountains of Austria?
Lasting a week, the festival is spread across a variety of venues both on the mountain and in the town of Mayrhofen. The full line up for 2016 is yet to be announced, but very recently the festival announced that we would be seeing the likes of Sean Lock and Jim Jefferies! Guaranteed to have to rolling in the snow in fits of laughter.
The brand new Chalet Tirol is now open for Inghams guests to come and stay! 200m from the newly upgraded Penken cable car in the centre of Mayrhofen, the extensive ski area is only a stones throw away. An extremely comfortable and convenient chalet with a separate lounge to relax in, skiers, snowboards and comedy-lovers who drop by feel well at home.

Definitely an event for those of you who like a little glitz and glamour, sparkling wine sipped next to a crackling fire from within the comfort of your 5-star chalet in the resort of Verbier. Momentum Festival is predominantly based around the established City Ski Championships - up to 300 skiers from London and Europe’s financial community take part in a programme of skiing, races and competitions, however over the years the festival has grown and developed and now includes an extensive après ski line up including comedy, live music and club nights.
The full programme for the event is yet to be released but there will be plenty of music, comedy and sport to enjoy over the course of the festival.
Don’t settle for anything less than the highest luxury! The 5-star W Hotel sits in an unbeatable ski-in-ski-out location at the bottom of the Medran lifts and has modern, refurbished rooms of the highest standard. A delicious hotel restaurant and there is an extensive spa area, indoor/outdoor heated swimming pool and highest quality spa that overlooks the mountains. Because you deserve it!
