Hotel Du Parc

Ratings/reviewsClick for full ratings

Only a few years old, the Hotel Du Parc may be small but is full of quality and just moments from Sauze's main square and all the main points of interest the resort has to offer. The contemporary Alpine style of the hotel makes it hard to believe it’s only a 3 star property. With only 19 rooms, the hotel team will ensure guests are well looked after and always on hand to help.

Rooms are very neat and tidy and have everything you need for your stay including SAT TV, free WiFi a minibar and much more. The layout is well thought out with lots of space, light and in the middle of it all, what looks like the most comfortable bed ever. We can't forget about the view which looks out onto the surrounding mountains, what better way to wake up each morning.

Breakfast is included at the hotel which will set you up for the day. You can enjoy a wide range of continental goods from the buffet such as cereals, fresh and dried fruit, cold cuts of meat and cheeses, freshly baked cakes and much more. The evenings are definitely for exploring the many excellent restaurants in Sauze but the Du Parc has another great surprise on offer, the on-site 3P restaurant serving a range of delicious food including the locally renowned stuffed potatoes or our personal favourite, a freshly baked pizza from the wood-fired oven, simply delightful.

The last trick up their sleeve is a small spa with an outdoor whirlpool set to a lovely 30 degrees, a sauna to relax any sore ski legs and a tasty tea corner to enjoy. This really is just a magnificent little hotel which we can't recommend enough.

Transfer time: approx. 1 hour 30 mins by coach from Turin airport.

Sauze d'Oulx

Sauze d'Oulx in the Milky Way ski area is a vibrant resort with a lively après scene that has long appealed to British visitors. The resort offers plentiful tree-lined skiing and wide open, cruising that is ideal for intermediate skiers and improving beginners. The extensive lift system has made access to the 400km of on-piste skiing simple and efficient.

The Sauze pistes are spread across a north and west facing, snow bowl which is great at preserving snow conditions, making the resort perfect for sampling powder skiing. A definite highlight is the 1300m descent from the top of Monte Fraiteve, skiing all the way to the valley floor at Jovenceaux.

Beyond Sauze the Milky Way ski area extends all the way to the high altitude resort of Sestriere, past Cesana towards the charming village of Claviere and across the French border to the iconic resort of Montgenèvre. The Milky Way offers a huge variety of skiing and snowboarding, perfect for the discerning wintersports enthusiast.

As well as excellent skiing, the old centre of the mountain village, with its cobbled streets, offers an attractive escape from the mountain when the ski legs start to get sore. This bustling resort is home to a great variety of pubs, bars, and restaurants all of which contribute to the lively, welcoming atmosphere.

Sauze’s reputation for offering reasonably priced food and drink is justified and has helped cement its reputation as a popular après destination. And the fabulous range of restaurants and pizzerias, both on and off the mountain, offer delicious Italian food that caters for all tastes.

Restaurants, food and drink

Eating out on the mountain needn’t be an expensive experience in Sauze d’Oulx. The Clot Bourget is one of our favourite mountain restaurants and it is excellent value for money too. Slightly off the beaten track, the Clot Bourget serves a good selection of Italian style food.

The Capanna Kind is a lively and friendly bar/restaurant on the mountain. The glorious sun terrace is a great place to enjoy a pasta dish or pizza for lunch. Regular live music makes this the ideal place to start the day’s après ski too!

In the centre of Sauze’s old town there is a wide variety of charming restaurants serving rustic mountain food and typical Italian dishes. Il Cantun del Barbabuc on the main street specialises in using local ingredients, it also has a fantastic wine list!

One of our favourites, the Del Falco has a fantastic menu and the incredible daily specials are delicious. We highly recommend the roast loin of pork with wild mushrooms. Not only do we rate the food highly, the staff are friendly and always make us feel welcome.

Après, bars, clubs and nightlife

Sauze’s reputation for lively nightlife and a thriving après ski scene is certainly justified. There is a wealth of pubs, bars and clubs, which lend the resort a definite party vibe. The scene has a sophisticated side too and it’s certainly possible to find somewhere for a chilled drink at the end of the day.

One of our favourite après spots, the Miravallino is a friendly and inexpensive bar in the centre of town. Reasonably priced food and drink, and regular live music performed several times a week enhances the already lively atmosphere.

Another favourite of ours is Il Lampione wine bar in the centre of town. Popular with the locals as well as with tourists this is a relaxed destination perfect for enjoying a lovely bottle of wine and nibbles, especially when accompanied by the occasional live music performance.

On the more boisterous end of the après spectrum is the Sport Cafè, which has a consistently lively atmosphere. Anywhere that does free pizza tasting sessions must be good! This is a great destination for anyone looking to watch sport, sing karaoke or stay up late into the night listening to live music.

Shopping

There are several supermarkets in resort, ideal for picking up any essentials you might have left at home! You can hire your ski equipment and buy presents for friends and family at the many sports and souvenir shops.

Spas and relaxation

The distinctive Hotel La Torre has an excellent wellness centre complete with large indoor whirlpool. Guests of the hotel and visitors can pay locally to relax in the steam room or the sauna. Beauty treatments are also available to guests to buy.

The spa at the Grand Hotel Besson offers an extensive range of wellness facilities. Highlights include the salt-water spa pool and the external hot water plunge pool – best enjoyed with a glass of Prosecco! Not staying at the Hotel Besson? Visitors to Sauze d’Oulx can pay locally to use the fantastic facilities.

Arts, culture and events

It’s perhaps unsurprising that this lively town has such a festival spirit. Live bands frequently perform on the mountain or in the main square making it consistently exciting in Sauze d’Oulx.

The highlight of a busy and eclectic events calendar is The Sauze Carnival. Taking place around lent, carnival is an Italian tradition and the streets of the old town are flooded with floats and costumed participants.

Events in and around resort also celebrate Christmas and New Year. Particularly notable is the end of year Torch lit procession and fireworks display. The local ski instructors accompanied by fireworks and music herald the New Year with an on-piste torch display.
