The Hotel Rodella's has a stunning location on the outskirts of Selva, with amazing views over the valley and mountains. The Planker family have run the hotel for generations and are extremely welcoming and informative. Get chatting and if you're lucky you may get to join one of their weekly wine tastings in the cellar!

Idyllic location

Set on a hill on the outskirts of Selva, the hotel enjoys a peaceful location with incredible views of the Val Gardena - look out for the Sella massif to the east, the spectacular Sassolungo to the south and the Pic to the north. The centre of town is about a kilometre away but there are plenty of options available to get you there and back. Jump on the hotel's free shuttle to and from the lifts or use the free local bus which runs every half an hour at peak times. If the conditions are good, you can even ski straight to the Santa Cristina lift.

Fabulous food and drink

The real star of the show is the food. The hotel have been awarded the ‘Gambero Rosso award’ for exceptional Italian food and wine. A varied breakfast buffet is served each day with hot and cold options available. Dinner is served in the lovely dining area, where you can enjoy a four course meal and each week you can taste some Tyrolean specialities with local cheeses and wine. Take in the incredible mountain views with a drink or two at the hotel bar - it is the ideal spot to enjoy an aperitif before dinner or a nightcap. 

Soothing spa and relaxation

The rest of the hotel is special too. The bedrooms are furnished in a modern Tyrolean style, and benefit from having a balcony with mountain views, so you can watch the world go by from the comfort of your room. 

Take a moment to enjoy the spa and wellness area. Take a dip in the panoramic indoor pool, and enjoy views of the village, relax in the jacuzzies, unwind in the sauna or steam room, or soak up the winter sun on the terrace. Massages and treatments are available for a local fee.

Selva

Set in the Südtirol’s charming Gardena valley, Selva is a gateway to the famous Sellaronda skiing circuit, where you can ski around the gigantic limestone monoliths of the Gruppo Sella. This delightful and not particularly challenging 25 mile tour can be achieved fairly easily in a day. Selva, part of Dolomiti Superski, the largest lift system in Europe, combines the best of Italian and South Tyrolean traditions for a unique ski holiday experience. It offers unbeatable quantity and variety of skiing right on its doorstep, a paradise for dedicated skiers of all levels.

The picturesque old town of Ortisei, the main community and cultural centre of Val Gardena, with its own small ski area, is both chic and traditional, with a picturesque town centre. Ortisei links easily with Selva’s pistes whilst its local Alpe di Siusi ski area is also well-known for its cross-country trails and a thrilling six kilometre toboggan run. Val Gardena is the venue for one of the early World Cup meetings each season. The Saslong downhill run to Santa Cristina - with its famous "camel bumps" - is where the men's downhill event on Mount Ciampinoi takes place.

Lift pass information

Featuring a linked ski area of 1220km on one lift pass, the Dolomite Superski Pass is worth every penny. Walker's pass available & purchased locally. Children born after 01/01/2016 can collect a free ski pass in resort. Proof of age will be required.

Tuition information

  • Guests staying at the Chalet Soldanella tuition may differ to website, please call to confirm duration and prices.
  • Adult ski tuition runs Sunday - Thursday 10am - 1pm, Friday 10am - 4pm
  • Child ski tuition runs Sunday to Wednesday 10am-1pm, Thursday & Friday 10am - 4pm (lunch is included on Thursday & Friday)
  • Snowboard tuition runs Sunday - Wednesday 9.30am - 12.30pm, Thursday & Friday 9.30am - 3.30pm
  • Group tuition need a minimum number of guests to take place. Very occasionally these numbers aren’t reached. If you have pre-booked tuition and this happens, the ski-school will do their best to offer private tuition to the value of what you had originally booked.

Levels of tuition:

  • Beginner - never skied before
  • Level 1 - advanced beginner; can control speed, snowplough and change direction on gentle slopes 
  • Level 2 - low intermediate, snowplough turns and start to ski parallel
  • Level 3 - good intermediate, parallel turns 
  • Advanced - fully confident on all slopes, looking to improve technique

A hot and cold buffet breakfast is served each day. In the evenings you'll enjoy a four-course dinner with choices and a buffet of starters. Every week the hotel host a gala dinner, which is a great opportunity to taste some local delicacies.

After dinner, head to the sky bar and lounge where you can continue your evening while taking in the panoramic mountain views.
