Switzerland, Graubunden Ski Region
In a sheltered mountain bowl surrounded by breathtaking peaks, Arosa is a long-established ski resort with chocolate box scenery and a fantastic ski area suitable for all abilities. In the stunning canton of Graubünden, it enjoys a beautiful setting high up at the end of the valley and has an excellent snow and sunshine record. The Arosa/Lenzerheide ski area, the majority of which is above the tree line, is accessible by cable-car or chairlift from the village, and the brand new link to the neighbouring resort of Lenzerheide means over 225km of pistes are now included on one pass. Arosa offers a quintessentially Swiss holiday, accessed by rail on the efficient Swiss rail system, the ride up is impressive and you are greeted with a pretty chocolate box village, high in the mountains with the frozen lake and snow covered streets lined with quaint cafes and good window shopping. The streets are kept grit free so you will often see people skiing through the village! All giving Arosa a unique and unforgettable resort atmosphere.
Beginners Arosa has several beginner blue runs served by drag lifts at Tschuggen and runs back down to the village all season thanks to its high altitude. Family areas are quiet and uncrowded.
Intermediates With so many wide open reds and relaxed blue slopes, intermediate skiers are spoilt for choice. Head to Weisshorn for long reds all the way back down to the village, to Rothorn, the area’s highest point, for spectacular views, or over to Lenzerheide for tree-lined runs down from the Piz Scalottas.
Advanced There are 40kms of ‘back country’ runs in Arosa alone, the most popular of which are at Hörnli, and plenty of challenging black runs descending from the peaks.
Snowboarding Arosa’s park in the Tschuggen area has rails, kickers and boxes split into three levels of difficulty, plus a minipipe. The park in Lenzerheide is more suitable for children and beginner freestylers.
