Managed by the welcoming Kienzler family, the Alpine Hotel Wengen (formerly Sunstar) is a popular hotel with good facilities and enjoys a fantastic location, just opposite the lift and nursery slopes. With good facilities and friendly atmosphere, guests here can look forward to an enjoyable stay.

Great location

With a central location in Wengen, just opposite the Männlichen cable-car and a short walk to the railway taking you to the Kleine Scheidegg and Jungfraujoch, you really couldn't ask for a better situated hotel. 

Bar and restaurant 

Each day you can enjoy a hearty breakfast buffet, including a classic continental offering with a range of local products and a variety of hot options. When you have returned from a day of adventures,  a four course evening meal is served with a choice of each course. For a memorable evening, you can book the 'Grillkota' - Tuesdays is typically raclette night and Fridays fondue night - the evenings are for eight people (pay locally), however can be privately reserved. For a romantic evening in, the "Nummer 100" gondola is the perfect spot to enjoy a fondue - please book with the reception team on arrival (pay locally).

The Hotel Alpine Wengen's elegant fireplace bar is the perfect place to enjoy a hand-crafted cocktail in front of the fireplace. There is also daily live music to keep you entertained.

Alpine spa and relaxation

If you fancy a day off the slopes, or want to soothe your muscles after - make the most of the wellness centre, have a dip in the pool or recharge in the sauna or steam room. For a little extra treat, massages and beauty treatments are available to book on reservation from 10am to 8pm. 

Traditional rooms

All of the rooms have a cosy feel to them, furnished in a traditional alpine style with wood panelling throughout - each room has a TV, Wi-Fi and many have views of the village surrounding mountains. The family duplex rooms have more space, with twin beds on the mezzanine and an additional double sofa bed downstairs - these are ideal for families who want their own private space, plus these rooms have a balcony with village rooms and coffee making facilities.

The idyllic village of Wengen is high up on a sunny, sheltered terrace with spectacular views, dominated by the magnificent trio of peaks – the Eiger (Ogre), Mönch (Monk) and Jungfrau (Maiden) – which provide a spectacular backdrop to Mürren and Wengen, and in part to Grindelwald. You'll arrive in this charming, friendly village by scenic mountain railway as it has reduced traffic, although you'll spot a few electric vehicles around.

Skiing and Snowboarding in Wengen

Home of the famous Lauberhorn downhill race this area is a skiers paradise. With the Jungfrau whole area pass you'll have access to skiing and boarding in Wengen, Grindelwald and Mürren ski areas, on the other side of the Lauterbrunnen Valley.  Take the cable-car from Wengen village centre, which links to Grindelwald’s ski area or take the mountain railway to the Kleine Scheidegg where both ski areas meet. Whatever your ski ability, you'll have the chance to enjoy the expanse of slopes and beautiful scenery. If skiing and boarding's not for you or just fancy a few day's doing other winter activities, take advantage of the amazing winter walking and sledging network. Pre book a non-skiers pass and use the lift and rail network to link the sledge runs and hiking trails. 

Bars and restaurants in Wengen

There are plenty of mountain restaurants across the Jungfrau area to check out for food at lunchtime. In the small village you'll find that some of the best restaurants are in the hotels, which are largely open to the public offering a la carte menus. With the majority of our accommodation available on a half board basis, so you'll have breakfast and dinner covered. When it comes to après in Wengen, think cosy bars and elegant lounges.

The Alpine Hotel Wengen is on a half-board basis.

Between Monday and Saturday, from 7:00am to 10:00am, fuel up for the day at the hearty breakfast buffet including a variety of hot options, as well as a classic continental offering including cheeses, breads, pastries and fresh fruit. On Sunday mornings, the buffet is open for breakfast until 11:00am.

When you have returned from a day on the slopes, enjoy a delicious four course evening meal with a choice of each course and a salad buffet - you can upgrade locally to items from the à la carte menu, for an additional charge.

Christmas and New Year programme included (please note: New Year gala dinner optional fancy dress theme).
