The ski resort of Grindelwald transforms into a festival town on New Year’s Eve, when the main street closes and patrons spill out of the bars and restaurants to celebrate in the open air. Silvester, as the festival is known locally, is brought in with the literal ringing of bells (in this case cowbells to ward off evil spirits), music, dancing, and, of course, fireworks.
Whether taking the gondola to the top of the First Mountain, or the train to the top of Kleine Scheidegg, Grindelwald is an epic ski area with stunning mountain scenery. It’s an atmospheric destination for your New Year’s ski holiday.

The quiet ski resort of Klosters is the perfect place to ring in the New Year with the family. Children will love the peculiar and unique local tradition of the Hotsch Race, where ten little piglets race through the village centre, cheered on by enthusiastic crowds.
