Maybe take a bus out to the Hellbrunn Palace to see the famous water gardens or book a day trip to the picturesque Salzkammergut lake district.

DAY 4 - Transfer to the station for the first of your train journeys to Vienna. Sit back and enjoy the scenery of Upper and Lower Austria with glimpses of the Danube on your way to Vienna. On arrival in Vienna you will be transferred to the Hotel Kaiserhof in the centre of the city. Our Vienna representative will be on hand to advise you of how to make the best of your time here.

DAYS 5 - 6 VIENNA - Immerse yourself in the cultural and architectural delights of Vienna. Don't miss the central pedestrian area around St. Stephen's cathedral, the Ringstrasse with its elegant buildings including the Town Hall, the Opera House, the Theatre and the Hofburg Palace and of course a visit to the Schönbrunn Palace and its magnificent gardens. Maybe spend an evening out in the wine-producing district of Grinzing or take a day trip to the Vienna Woods and Mayerling.

DAY 7 - Transfer to the station for the second leg of your train journey which takes you south-west through the Mürz valley and then south into the province of Carinthia and its capital Klagenfurt, before following the shore of the Wörthersee lake and arriving in Carinthia’s second largest town, Villach. Transfer to the Romantik Hotel Post and maybe stretch your legs in the pedestrian area of Villach and indulge in a coffee and cake at one of the many cafés.

DAY 8 - VILLACH  - The town of Villach dates back to the 13th century and sights to see include the two churches of St. Jakob and St. Peter. This area of Austria is famous not only for its lakes but also for its thermal spas and just 2 miles from the town centre you will find the Warmbad Villach, with its thermal pools where you can also treat yourself to a range of massages and beauty treatments. A great way to see more of the area is on a boat trip and these run regularly from the centre of Villach south along the river Drau to the Faaker lake. The hotel reception will provide you with assistance and information here.

DAY 9 - Today's journey takes you for a scenic ride along the Drau valley and through the 8km tunnel that connects Carinthia with the province of Salzburg. You emerge in the pretty Gastein valley and, after a brief stop at the picturesque town of Zell Am See continue into the Pinzgau and soon the imposing Kitzbüheler Horn comes into view and after a short stop in St. Johann you arrive in Kitzbühel. The Hotel Astoria is just across the road from the station.

DAYS 10 - 14 KITZBÜHEL - Kitzbühel has no shortage of magnificent scenery and the medieval cobbled streets of the town centre make it a fascinating place to explore. We recommend a trip up one of the cable cars to enjoy the stunning views from a mountain top. Our representative here will be on hand to point you in the right direction. The optional 3 or 4 night extension in Kitzbühel enables you to see much more of the surrounding area, either by foot or by joining a choice of coach excursions.
