A stunningly maintained classic building on the shores of Lake Como, the Grand Hotel Menaggio is a firm favourite of Inghams guests. Situated a short 300 metre walk from the centre of the town and with a ferry port close by, it makes for a wonderful base for those looking to explore the various resorts on the lake and even those which lay beyond. The local ferries can take you to Varenna and Belaggio and the larger ferries down to Como town itself where it is possible to then travel up to St Moritz via the Bernina express or down to Milan for a day of shopping and sightseeing.
With the entire hotel interior renovated in 2008, the rooms at the Grand Hotel Menaggio are simplistic in their design yet comfortable with modern amenities and elegant traditional touches such as hand painted furniture and wallpapers. All rooms come with a view with standard rooms overlooking the terracotta rooftops of Menaggio and upgraded lake view rooms which offer panoramic views of the azure waters beneath you. The hallways are bright and airy with vintage photographs of the resort and grand yachts adorning the walls and pastel colours creating an almost maritime theme which spills into the bedrooms with prominent shades of powder blue and warm gold.
The alluring gardens in which the Grand Hotel Menaggio is set are an attraction in their own right with cypress trees, Michoacan pine and dwarf palms encompassing a large heated outdoor pool. The gardens offer sunloungers and parasols which are free of charge to guests and span a great space, with the plethora of flora leading right the way down to the waters edge.
There are two restaurants within the Grand Hotel Menaggio. The elegant and sophisticated Sala Clio overlooks the lake and verdant gardens and is open each evening for dinner with the likes of grilled octopus lingue and queen scallops to enjoy. For a more relaxed experience, La Veranda situated within the gardens boasts a fabulous cocktail menu with light bights such as antipasti sharing boards during the warmer summer months.
