Grand Hotel Menaggio has the best location in town. It’s right on the lakefront and you can’t help but notice the hotel from the water – it’s old-world charm really stands out. The centre of Menaggio is only 300 metres away so you can easily explore the shops and bars, or jump on a ferry and head out for the day. It’s a great base as ferries from here go all over the lake. To make the most of the location, we recommend upgrading to a Superior Room. You’ll get uninterrupted lake views and your own private space to watch the sunrise over the lake each morning.

The outside areas here are lovely. The gardens are well-established and beautifully maintained. The pool’s a nice spot to kick back and relax for the day. You get views of the lake from here and you can see all the way to Bellagio. La Veranda is a nice place for lunch, it’s close to the pool so you won’t have to venture far. They’ve got a good selection of light dishes and antipasti. The cocktail menu is great too. Try and save some room for dinner though as it’s four courses. You’ll eat in the dining room from a set menu as part of the standard half board package. There’s a fine dining a la carte restaurant too if you fancy something a bit more special one night.

Transfer time: approx. 2 hours by coach from Milan Malpensa airport.

Menaggio

To the north of the lake above Tremezzo and Cadenabbia and looking across to Bellagio. One of the main towns on the lake Menaggio has a large pretty piazza with many gelaterias, shops and cafés as well as a very picturesque lakeside promenade.

Halfway along the western shores of Lake Como, a holiday in Menaggio offers a very popular Italian Lakes getaway. Established by the Romans as a strategic settlement on the Via Regina road, it was fortified in medieval times with walls, towers and castles and again in the Great War and WWII. Remains from all these periods can be seen around town. The fascinating upper town has narrow medieval alleys, steps and frescos, whilst lower down you will find 19th century alpine style buildings, the harbour and a picturesque lakeside promenade lined with shady trees, flowers and well-kept villas.
