The Tibetan Bridge and Roc del Quer viewpoint are two stunning sites in the Canillo valley. You can head to the Col d’Ordino first to the car park near the view point, it's then a short walk down the ridge to take you to the Roc del Quer viewpoint. It juts out of the landscape on an impressive platform, with some sections of the floor made from glass so you get views from all angles. The scenery here is fantastic and you even have a birds eye view of the towns of Soldeu, Canillo and Encamp.
The Tibetan bridge at Canillo is popular attraction in this area. To get to the bridge it's an easy 15 minute walk up from the carpark. Once you reach it you'll see a structure that stretches 603 metres long across the valley at a height of up to 158 metres above the Vall del Riu. Even if you’re not feeling brave enough to cross, the sight of the bridge and the surrounding views are still seriously impressive.

One of Chamonix's most famous attractions, the Aiguille du Midi cable car, whisks you up into the mountains to an altitude of 3,842 meters. At the top, you’re in the midst of the Mont Blanc Massif with jaw-dropping views towards surrounding peaks including views of the Mont Blanc, the highest peak in Western Europe. For an added thrill, step into the glass skybox known as ‘Step into the Void’, which suspends you over a 1,000-metre drop. You’ll also find a small museum detailing the history of climbing in this area. You may want to purchase tickets to the Aiguille du Midi cable car in advance as it's very popular during the summer months.

From £113 per person

Glide in the air surrounded by the gorgeous mountains and see the Chamonix Valley from above. Seeing Mont Blanc from the Brevent mountain range, these are views you won't forget. You'll be in a tandem flight so your professional paragliding pilot will guide you in the air.

Visit the small city of Annecy, known as the 'Venice of the Alps', its canals, the old town and historical churches. The most famous buildings are the Palais de l’Isle and the Basilique de la Visitation above Old Annecy with a free exhibition of bells (usually from mid-May onwards, subject to change).

The area was also associated with the French Resistance, the British agent Odette operated locally and the story of the Plateau de Glières, where resistance fighters were based and there was a big battle is told in the Resistance Museum.

The village of Talloires on the Eastern side of the lake was built around an 11th century abbey. The most well known castles in the area were built by the Dukes of Savoy including Annecy, Menthon-Saint-Bernard and Montrottier.

The area of Morzine is known for its cycling with the Tour de France often passing through the town. Its mountainous surroundings make for some challenging climbs and exhilarating descents. Road cycling is very popular in this area and it's one of the Alps' leading destinations for mountain biking.

Morzine has a great range of sports events during summer. We've listed a few of our favourites below. Please be aware dates are subject to change and should be checked in advance, tickets might also be required and may need to be booked and paid for in advance:

The Passportes du Soleil - is usually held at the end of June and marks the beginning of some of the lifts opening and is a great event showcasing the bike trails in the area.

Tour de France Morzine - watch the worlds most famous road race, Morzine is known for its challenging mountain climbs so you can watch the racers be put to the test.

L'Etape Morzine - If you love the Tour de France then you might also love the L'Etape Morzine, its a chance for non-professional cyclists to experience the same section of course as the professionals, if you're not looking to sign up then spectating is just as much fun, the town has a great atmosphere at this time of year and it's exciting to be a part of the experience.

The local market is open every Monday morning, held on the Church square in the center of the village and is a great opportunity to experience local delights. You will find all the local specialities including: Reblochon, Savoy ham, Aravis liqueur, clothing, local fruits and vegetables, honey, jam, bread, and local ready cooked meals.

One of the most famous local foods is Reblochon cheese, that's not only delicious but even warrants its own festival. Held annually (usually in August) it’s a celebration of local farmers, makers and of course plenty of opportunities to try Reblochon. For those wanting to know more about this tasty cheese, head to the Hameau des Alpes interactive museum, it’s a great exhibition that details the history of Reblochon as well as the history of skiing in the area in a fun and interactive way.

The Brenta Dolomites is famous for its waterfalls. Walk along the Sentiero dell'Orso (Bear Path) to the Vallesinella Waterfalls, which are the most famous waterfalls in the Adamello-Brenta Natural Park. The trail starts by the Spinale Gondola station, and heads through forests all the way up to the highest of the waterfalls, the Malga Valesinella di Sopra. Or, you could spend the day enjoying a picnic in the stunning Val Nambrone, where you can scope out the Cascata Amola. You can walk to the falls from the Rifugio Val Nambrone which you can get to by heading to the next door town of Madonna di Campiglio, Pinzolo.

Madonna di Campiglio prides itself on being a great destination for a family summer holiday, so it has loads of fun activities on offer to keep children and adults entertained on their summer holiday. From tennis to boules, golf, swimming, canyoning, padel, volleyball, vie ferrate, and even orienteering; children will never get bored! Spend some time in the outdoor playground which sits near the glacial river, it has a grassy area where you can take picnics whilst keeping an eye on the little ones. Cycling with young ones is also a great option as there are a few well kept cycle paths which you can hop on and off from Madonna; try out the Val Rendena Cycle Path or the floral cycle path which links the Brenta Dolomites to Lake Idro.

Step into the spectacular landscapes of the Dolomites in the Puez Odle and Fanes Senes Braies Nature Parks, both part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Stretching out around Corvara and Colfosco, these vast mountain landscapes are made for exploring, with a huge network of walking trails winding through dramatic peaks, flower filled meadows and ancient rock formations.

Take to the trails and you’ll find a constantly changing backdrop of jagged mountains, lush valleys and fascinating geological features. Whether you’re looking for a gentle stroll or a longer mountain adventure, these incredible natural landscapes offer some of the most memorable walking in the Dolomites.

Summer in Kronplatz is anything but ordinary. Whether you're soaring through the trees on a high ropes course, racing down the summer tubing track, or taking aim in a game of 3D archery, there’s no shortage of ways to get your adrenaline fix. The area’s network of bike trails is perfect for exploring on two wheels, while the Kron trampoline park adds a bounce of excitement – with panoramic mountain views thrown in.

For those craving a real thrill, head to the top of Mount Kronplatz and seek out the Skyscraper – a giant swing where you’re strapped in, hoisted up, and then released to let gravity (and your nerves) take over. It’s not for the faint-hearted, but the views are incredible – if you’re brave enough to keep your eyes open.

Merano's thermal baths are the perfect place to relax and unwind after a day of walking in the mountains. At the spas you'll find everything from Finish saunas to steam rooms, plus 25 pools, each unique in it's own way. Be sure to make use of the outdoor pools, some of which have wonderful mountain views- dreamy!

Buttercup-yellow cable cars climb from San Cassiano and up into the mountains behind. From the top, you can wander alpine trails or search out a mountain hut for an Hugo (that’s elderflower syrup, mint and prosecco). From here, you can either return to San Cassiano – or take the cable car to the neighbouring village of La Villa, with its 16th-century castle and famed slalom slopes.

A heads-up if you're planning a trip to San Cassiano in summer 2027: The Piz Sorega gondola will be closed for construction all season. Since it's the resort's only lift, you'll need to head to La Villa for the nearest cable car - a quick 10-minute ride on the 465 bus or a 5km walk if you'd prefer to warm up your legs first. Don't worry though, there are still plenty of great hikes starting right from San Cassiano village centre.

Selva's and Ortisei are a paradise for bikers with a huge network of trails to suit all levels. E-biking has become increasingly popular, offering a fun and accessible way to explore the stunning Dolomite landscapes. Ride through lush meadows, navigate forest paths, or conquer mountain roads that wind through the valleys. Why not head for the freeride trails or stick with the gentle winding routes on the family line- both are fun. Best of all the lifts take you to the top of the runs, so all you need to do is enjoy the ride down.

If you fancy trying out e-biking, tackle the hills and cruise along valley paths with the help of an electric motor, giving you the time to take in the mountain views. It doesn’t get much better than an e-bike tour of mountain huts, or 'rifugi' as they call them. This is also a great way of combining outdoor adventure with local food and wine.

With plenty of routes for all abilities, from leisurely cycles to more challenging terrain, cycling in Selva and Ortisei is a perfect way to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the region.

If your staying in Selva, make sure to head to the pretty villages of Santa Cristina and Ortisei, which are linked by the fascinating Val Gardena railway trail. Both villages are soaked in tradition with local markets, pretty churches and boutique shops; there are even craft breweries to explore. Not to mention the spectacular mountain panoramas.

There's no shortage of mountain fun in Selva. With over five adventure playgrounds to choose from with an endless amount of fun equipment for children to play on. Take to the 10 metre long slide at the Pranives Children’s Playground, or take a pit stop at the Val D’Anna Playground set amongst a walking path where children can burn their energy on the playhouse and climbing equipment whilst taking in those glorious mountain views.

If you fancy an adventure with some height, then head to the Col de Flam Adventure Park with a roof top rope adventures for children of all ages. The Mar Dolomit is also an activity not to be missed, offering an outdoor pool, and 4 indoors pools which include a children’s and baby pool too – plus there is a children’s slide too!

Follow in the footsteps of stars from George Clooney to James Bond as you explore some of Lake Como’s most spectacular villas and gardens. In Tremezzo, visit the 17th century Villa Carlotta, home to an impressive collection of art including sculptures by Canova, or head to Bellagio to wander through the beautiful botanical gardens at Villa Melzi.

For a taste of Lake Como’s glamorous side, book dinner at Villa Serbelloni and enjoy an elegant evening of local cuisine. In Laglio, you may even catch a glimpse of Villa Oleandra, George Clooney’s former lakeside home.

Film fans won’t want to miss Villa Balbianello in Lenno, which has provided the backdrop for both James Bond: Casino Royale and Star Wars: Attack of the Clones. National Trust members can also benefit from discounted entry, so don’t forget your membership card. If you're keen to visit, we recommend booking tickets online a few months in advance as they sell out quickly.

Vineyards to the south in Brianza and on the northern end of the lake above Domaso produce some lovely local wines. It’s great to visit in autumn when the grape harvest is taking place. The Valtellina is another area of vineyards where they produce Valtellina Superiore DOCG red wine.

We’d definitely recommend exploring Lake Como from the water. There are loads of activities for you to try like kayaking, water skiing, swimming and sailing. There’s also a regular ferry service and all sorts of boats available to hire. The geography of the lake means it has the ideal wind conditions for wind-surfing, so it's a great place to go if that's your cup of tea.

Throughout the summer months festivities liven up the lakes shores. The City of Music Festival in Como transforms the town into one giant music, dance and art venue with shows and performances taking place at various historic locations. In July and August the Bellagio Festival brings concerts, films and performances to many of the lakeside towns. They’re held in gorgeous settings like churches, piazzas and castles.

Make an evening of it with a trip from Lake Garda to Verona for an unforgettable night at the famous Verona Arena. The spectacular Roman amphitheatre comes alive with opera performances throughout the summer, with the season running from mid June to early September and a programme featuring classics such as Verdi’s Aida and Puccini’s Turandot.

It’s a magical way to experience Verona after dark, with the ancient arena providing an unforgettable backdrop for some of the world’s most famous operas. Whether you’re a lifelong opera fan or simply looking for a memorable evening while staying on Lake Garda, this is one for the bucket list.
