Salo

Salò, a lovely Belle Epoque town full of handsome cafes, townhouses and hotels, many the result of rebuilding in the prevailing liberty (Italian Art Deco) style after a 1901 earthquake. Its history dates back to the Romans and Venetians. It is especially fun to visit for the big Saturday market, or on Sunday when the residents take their evening stroll on the promenade. Treat yourself to wonderful music of all kinds on the Lungolago (the lakeside promenade) which becomes the open-air setting for several bands. If you go on Thursday night you'll get the best sounds of the summer.

Things to do in resort

  • Walking

Salò is especially fun to visit for the big Saturday market, or on Sunday when the residents take their evening stroll on the long lakeside promenade. To get to know the Gulf of Salò, carry on along the promenade perhaps as far as the Conca d'Oro beach (40 minutes) for a drink and a great view of the town. Or visit the botanical gardens at nearby Gardone Riviera 10 minutes away on the boat. Salò holidays are for lovers of Italy and all things Italian.
