Ratings/reviewsClick for full ratings

Grand Hotel Forte dei Marmi is in a perfect position right on the seafront promenade and just a few minutes from the centre of town. The area is well known in Italy as the classiest of the Tuscany Coast resorts and this hotel is a great value option for enjoying it. You’ll have some of the world’s finest beach clubs on your doorstep, alongside the beautiful backdrop of the Apuan Alps.

You'll be swimming in the Med in no time thanks to the private beach just across the road where you can rent a lounger for the day. The hotel's pool is a nice alternative to the beach. Enjoy a refreshing swim or just relax on one of the loungers on the decking that surrounds it. We enjoyed having an Aperol Spritz from the bar and sitting out on the terrace.

The rooms are simply decorated with patterned, tiled floors and all have balconies with partial sea views. In the morning you'll have plenty of choice in the restaurant at the breakfast buffet and if you upgrade to half board you can enjoy evening meals here too.

Transfer time: approx. 35 mins by private car from Pisa airport.

Tuscany Coast

The Tuscany Coast has been a favoured Italian beach retreat since Roman times. But it really flourished in the early 20th century, when cities like Viareggio decorated the promenade with art deco beach clubs and art nouveau hotels.

Travel north from Viareggio, and you’ll come across Marina di Pietrasanta and its panoramic pier. Forte dei Marmi is right next door – a stylish beach town with sculpture parks and a summer fireworks festival.

Fancy exploring further afield? Fast trains zip from the Tuscany Coast to Pisa and Florence via the rolling Tuscan countryside.

Pools & Beaches

The hotel's outdoor pool is surrounded by decking, with sunbeds and umbrellas (swimming caps are compulsory when in the pool). There's a pool towel service that's payable locally. The bar is just beside the pool and there's a nice terrace where you can sit out with a cool drink.

The beach is just across the road from the hotel. Its a private beach that's not linked to the hotel, but you can pay for a lounger and parasol for the day locally. The prices start from about €60 euros per day in low season for one umbrella and two sun loungers.  Most of the beaches on this coastline are private but a few kilometres from the hotel there is a free public beach where you can lay your own towel down.
