Kandersteg is an attractive alpine village enjoying a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, and surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery in all directions. The main street is lined with inviting cafés and restaurants, and small shops selling local produce. The walking possibilities are excellent, with an abundance of trails around and above the village, from gentle strolls to more strenuous hill-walking. Our hotels in Kandersteg offer you a great choice of accommodation. The Oeschinen cable-car, which is a pleasant 10 minute stroll from the village, whisks visitors up to the glorious scenery of the Oeschinen Lake. Or take the Sunnbüel cable-car, a short bus ride away, for more walking trails and views. Trains in both directions link well-known places such as Interlaken, Lake Thun, Zermatt and the capital of Berne - the possibilities are varied.
There are over 550kms of walking paths to explore the scenery in and around Kandersteg, parts of which belongs to the UNESCO World heritage Swiss Alps. Lake Oschienen certainly lives up to this recognition with its shimmering mountain lake. Various walking challenges run by the tourist office await those who want to see the best of the region (suitable for all abilities). Oeschinen Lake - UNESCO World heritage site*
Take the cable-car from resort to this stunning lake above Kandersteg for great walking, popular panoramic terrace restaurant and fabulous views.
Enjoy a cable-car ride up to Sunnbüel from where walking possibilities abound (approx. beginning June to end of season).
This ride brings you to fantastic scenery and views over the village. A lovely area for walkers and particularly good for spotting wild flowers.
