Villaggio Baia d’Ercole is set amidst Mediterranean gardens right on the beach front in the heart of Capo Vaticano on the Calabrian coast. The hotel is about 25 minutes’ drive from the town of Tropea with its clifftop historic centre and there is a shuttle service that runs there from the hotel and back for about €10 per person. Spend days relaxing on the wide beach where the hotel offers a beach service with deck chairs and parasols from April to October (weather dependent). After the beach take a swim in the hotel's pool or enjoy a game of tennis. The hotel's restaurant is set on the coast with panoramic views across the bay and serves local specialties as well as international cuisine. The rooms are decorated in a simple and fresh style and all have a patio, terrace or balcony, making them the perfect beach side retreat.

Double Low Cost Rooms range from 14-30m² and sleep from two to six people. These rooms are about 50 metres from the main building which is separated by a gate and a narrow street. The come with a kitchenette inside or outside on the patio. All rooms come with a double bed, television, air conditioning, safe and hairdryer. Baby cots are available for free on request.

Standard Rooms range from 12-20m² and sleep up to four people with the third and fourth bed being a bunk bed.

Superior Rooms are about 14-16m² sleep up to three people. These rooms are decorated in a modern style and have been completely renovated. They are located in front of the pool and have a terrace or balcony.

Family Apartments are about 20-30m² sleep between three and five people. These apartments have two bedrooms, a bathroom and a balcony or terrace.

Try the local digestivo

Italy is famed for its digestivo (after dinner drink) and Capo Vaticano, a lovely town on the Tyrrhenian coast, has its very own called Vecchio Amaro del Capo. The amber-coloured liqueur is unique to Calabria and is infused with local aniseed, liquorice, peppermint, and other herbs. 

Taste the pepperoncino

The horn shaped red chilli pepper has become Calabria's unofficial symbol. Other than being a spicy addition to many local dishes, it is also thought to ward off malocchio (the evil eye). 

Head to the bustling markets

Most towns have a weekly market where your likely to find locally grown and produced foods such as fresh fruits, cured olives, local honey and tasty baked goods.

Hit the beach

The region is famed for its beautiful coast line. Spend days exploring sandy stretches, secluded coves and admiring impressive rock formations. Om most beaches you can pay locally to rent umbrellas and sun loungers.

Explore the national parks

Over 91% of Calabria is covered by mountains and forests, most of which are protected in the many national parks. pen days exploring forests, canyons, streams and waterfalls. The parks can be seen on foot, by bike or by car.

The hotel's restaurant serves a selection of local cuisine as well as international dishes. A relaxed bar serves drinks and snacks throughout the day and the Piano bar is open from April to the end of October with evening entertainment and aperitivi.

Pools & Beaches

Relax in the hotel's charming outdoor pool with sun loungers and great views to admire. There's also a dedicated children's pool. 

The private beach is normally open from April to the end of October. It is a natural beach of sand and pebbles where there are parasols and sun chairs for guests to relax on. Beach towels can be rented (approx. €5)
