Best Western Plus Tower Hotel Bologna is on the outskirts of the city - it's a short bus or train ride to the centre. Here they really focus on simple functionality and comfort - making it a great base for a city break in Bologna. The staff go above and beyond to make sure you have a pleasant stay and their attention to detail is hard to match.

The whole hotel has a fresh, modern feel and it has nice, large rooms - they're all sound proofed and have king sized beds, so a comfy, peaceful night's sleep is always on the cards here. Each morning they serve breakfast in the dining room. You can't beat a freshly squeezed orange juice to start the day - we love that they also make the coffee to order. Continental options as well as hot choices like eggs and bacon, mean that you'll have enough to keep you going until at least lunch time when you're off out exploring Bologna. That's if you can resist the delicious food the city has to offer.

The bed and breakfast board basis means you'll get to try out some of the amazing restaurant's and wine bars in town - just wander off the main Piazza Maggiore and down some of the pretty side streets and you'll stumble upon great little eateries. If you're back at the hotel and fancy a bite to eat, the restaurant here is open Monday to Friday and has a nice selection of Italian and international cuisine.

Transfer time: approx. 15 mins by private car.

Bologna is a city of three nicknames. La Grassa – the Fat One – for its position in the heart of the northern foodie region Emilia Romagna. La Rossa – the Red One – after its skyline of red rooftops and towers. And La Dotta – the Learned One – because it’s home to the oldest university in the world.

To get the best view of that red skyline, head for one of the 12th-century Two Towers. Bologna has a great collection of churches, too. The San Petronio Basilica lays out 22 chapels filled with saint’s relics and frescoes. For a baroque spin, try the Sanctuary of the Madonna of San Luca
