In the beautiful Stelvio National Park, you'll find the Hotel Livigno. First founded in 1912 it's the oldest hotel in Livigno and has been run by the same family for four generations (the Mottini-Bormolini family). You'll definitely feel the family atmosphere when you stay here. The service is very friendly and personal, so you can relax the minute you walk in the door. The hotel's decorated in a traditional alpine style, with wood-panelled rooms and Persian rugs on the floors.

It's very close to the centre of Livigno, so not only do you have the mountains and national park on your doorstep, but you've got an historical Alpine town to explore. It really is the best of both worlds! What we love about the Hotel Livigno is that it's so close to the Cassana Gondola, which makes it the ideal place if you love hiking, climbing or biking routes. The Gondola will take you up to some of the most stunning view points in Livigno

If all you want to do is relax, then you can do a bit of duty free shopping or take advantage of the hotel's amazing spa. Whether you're hanging out in the Finnish Sauna, paddling in the Turkish bath or steaming in the steam room, the spa's the best way to ease any aches or pains after a busy day.

Rooms

Comfort Rooms are about 18m² and sleep up to three people. The extra bed is a single sofa bed. The rooms are decorated in a cosy alpine style. They have a shower, TV, safe and hairdryer. 

Superior Rooms are more spacious at about 20m² and sleep up to two people.  They have a balcony, mini-bar, tea and coffee making facilities and bath with a showerhead.

Suites are about 32-34m² and sleep up to four people. They are made up of a double bedroom and a separate lounge area with a double sofa bed. They have a jacuzzi bath with a showerhead. 

Single rooms are also available.

The lift only goes up to the third floor. Superior rooms and suites are on the fourth floor, and have about 10 steps leading up to them. They may not be suitable for guests with walking difficulties.

What to see on a Livigno holiday

In the Summer there's plenty of opportunity for hiking and adrenaline filled mountain biking. The Forcola pass links Italy to Switzerland - which means you can cross the boarder and explore trails over there too. You can go paddle boarding on Livigno Lake or even test your agility at one of Livigno's adventure parks. What we love to do is morning yoga on the mountain, surrounded by stunning views of the valley. It's the best way to find your inner zen! If wildlife is your thing, then look out for the Ibex and Wild Eagles.

The food here isn't typically Italian, instead it's based on the flavours and cooking styles found in the valley. You'll get to try delicious local mountain dishes which are usually made from rich meats, and local cheeses - these dishes are bound to set you up for an action packed day exploring the mountains.

Lace up those boots

Livigno and the surrounding Stelvio National Park provide the most stunning backdrop for long walks and hikes. Whether you're a hard-core hiker or just want to stroll around and take in the view, you'll find trails for all levels.

 

Connect with nature

The Stelvio National park is a nature lovers paradise. It's actually the largest protected area in Europe, created to preserve the natural environment for generations to come. Made up of mountain ranges, glacial lakes, waterfalls, woodland, meadows and historical villages, it's a fantastic place to explore. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife like deer, ibex, foxes and marmoys and don't forget to look up... you may be lucky enough to spot a bearded vulture or golden eagle. We love looking out for tracks and footprints to see which animals have been around. If it's plants that you're interested in, you'll want to look out for the glacial buttercups which grow high up on the mountain. 

 

Fun for the family

Livigno is full of adventure parks, which make a great family day out. You should visit Larix Park, a high ropes and adventure centre in the middle of the Larch Forest. It has nine different adventure routes, with something to suit all ages. You could also try Aquagrandia activity centre which has a swimming pool, slides, children's entertainment, a spa and a gym. The whole family will be happy! 

 

Mottolino Bike Park

If you love downhill and free ride mountain biking, or you want to give it a go, then you have to go to Mottolino Bike Park. It was specially built for riders looking to improve technique, learn new tricks and try out different jumps. If you're looking for more of a challenge you can practise your jump technique with the inflatable landing or try the downhill biking tracks.

 

Food and Drink

Try Bitto, a cheese typical of the Valtellina region. It is a semi-hard cheese which can be aged for between 40 days and three years. Enjoy the cheese with a few slices of Bresaola della Valtellina (dried Italian salt-beef) and some local Valtellina wine.

If you want something heartier to eat, Manfrigole is a filling dish made with buckweat pancakes stuffed with Bresaola and Casera cheese.

Meals

Breakfast is buffet style with fresh pastries, yoghurt, bread, cheeses, cold cuts, cereal and fruit.

Half-Board is taken in the hotel's own restaurant which is a rustic wood-panelled dining room. For dinner you'll get three courses and a salad buffet on the side. The hotel's restaurant is known for it's food, they have a great selection of local Valtellina recipes and fresh fish from the lake. All the food is made using fresh ingredients and local produce. What we like to do is try a different wine each night to go with our meal- they have a great wine selection.

You have to go to the gala dinner which takes place once a week, where you can try some delicious local dishes.
