The 12th Century converted Benedictine Abbey, Relais Santa Anastasia, is a haven of tranquility lying in the beautiful countryside of the Madonie Natural Park. The hotel is in a stunning location nestled high up in the hills, surrounded by its own vineyard and olive groves, with incredible views down to the Tyrrhenian coast. On a clear day you can see as far as the volcanic Aolean Isalnds. Positioned between the beautiful seaside town of Cefalu (25 minute drive), with its unique Arab-Norman Cathedral and the authentic Sicilian village of Castelbuono (25 minute drive), famed for its Medieval castle. Founded by the Normans an eventually left to ruin, the Abbeys historical buildings have now been carefully restored to form this charming hotel and winery. Enter into the cobble stone courtyard flanked by the reception and the original chapel with its lovely rose window. Today original architectural features including the windows of the friars cells have been incorporated into the guest rooms. Each room is named after a different wine produced at the property. They are decorated in a cozy and comfortable style.
The pool is set on a large terrace surrounded a grove of palm trees with comfortable loungers and views out towards the sea. For those feeling active and adventurous there are plenty of trails and nature walks through the vines, olive groves, broom, cork, oak and ash wilderness of the organic estate. After a day spent exploring the terrace is the perfect spot to enjoy a glass of the Nero d’Avola wine, whilst soaking up the stunning natural surroundings and watching the sun go down. Guests are invited to visit to the estate’s winery to learn about the production of the different white and red wines made at Relais Santa Anastasia. The friarys refectory and stables have been transformed into a gourmet restaurant. The chef serves delicious Sicilian delicacies, created using the fresh produce grown in the vegetable garden, accompanied by the wines produced on the surrounding land. The waiters have a fantastic knowledge of the wines and are happy to make recommendations. After dinner head across to the cozy bar for a nightcap.
