Park Hotel Mignon is one of Merano's finest hotels. It's centrally located with the centre just a five-minute walk away, yet it's surrounded by nature with established gardens providing peace and privacy. They stretch over 10,000 square metres and have plenty of shady spots to relax on a warm summer’s day. We love chilling out here with a good book. You’ll also find the charming outdoor pool in the gardens, equipped with comfy sun loungers.

The interiors are finished to the standard you'd expect from a five-star hotel. The Glatt-Amort-Ellmenreich family have really looked after the property and take pride in every detail. The rooms are beautiful and blend modern with traditional. For a special treat, upgrade to a Romantic Double Room. They've got stunning wood floors and south-facing balconies with garden views. The food at the hotel is probably it's best feature. Plenty of care goes into sourcing the finest local ingredients so you can enjoy the region's typical dishes for both breakfast, lunch and dinner, which is a five-course feast with regular theme nights.

There's so much to see and do in Merano and the surrounding areas but don't forget to leave some time to relax in the hotel’s spa. Spend a few hours chilling out in the saunas, pool or steam rooms. If you want to top up your tan head to the roof terrace, which is around 200 square metres and the perfect sun trap. The views are pretty incredible from here too.

Transfer time: approx. 2 hours 15 mins by coach from Verona airport.

The spa resort of Merano screams culture with lots of museums and historical places of interest like Trauttmansdorff Castle and Merano’s very own racecourse dating back to 1886. Best of all is the mix of culture in the food with Alpine and South Tyrolean ingredients coming together to create culinary delights. Wash them down with a delicious locally-made wine from one of the many vineyards.

What to see on a Merano holiday

The Passirio River flows through the centre of this charming town, which hosts the Merano flower festival every year. Restaurants, markets and shops selling local produce line the streets and there’s plenty of walks along the river. There’s some spectacular hikes along gorges, lakes and up the mountain trails too. The Knottnkino lookout point is a must. We'd also recommend heading up to the Rametz Castle for the day, where you can explore an ancient winery and wine museum, as well as taste some of the delicious local wines.

Things to Do

Things to see and do in Merano

Enjoy lovely walks along the river to the historical centre of Merano. You’ll find all sorts of shops, art nouveau buildings, castles and plenty of museums. You can’t miss the famous gardens of Castel Trauttmansdorff. It was first built in 1300AD and today tourists come from all around the world to see the spectacular gardens in bloom. For a great day out, hop on a train to Bolzano where you’ll find some of the best gelato in the South Tyrol.

Food & drink

This region is well known for its wine and beer thanks to its Mediterranean climate. Orchards and vineyards line the mountains and stretch down to the town. We recommend visiting Castello Rametz, a wine museum where you can take a guided walk around and try the wine.

There’s a number of Michelin starred restaurants here for fine dining and local, family-run places too. Our go-to dish is Schlutzer. It's a traditional handmade ravioli dish stuffed with spinach, onion, nutmeg and covered in butter.

Cycling is a great way to see the area. Dedicated bike paths make it easy for all the family to go out and explore. Be sure to take your camera to capture the amazing scenery as you go.

Merano is known for being a spa town and a visit to the Terme Merano is a must. There’s an impressive 25 pools and a 2,200m² sauna area, perfect for a bit of relaxation while on holiday.
