Kandersteg

Kandersteg is an attractive alpine village enjoying a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, and surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery in all directions. The main street is lined with inviting cafés and restaurants, and small shops selling local produce. The walking possibilities are excellent, with an abundance of trails around and above the village, from gentle strolls to more strenuous hill-walking. The Oeschinen cable-car, which is a pleasant 10 minute stroll from the village, whisks visitors up to the glorious scenery of the Oeschinen Lake. Or take the Sunnbüel cable-car, a short bus ride away, for more walking trails and views. Trains in both directions link well-known places such as Interlaken, Lake Thun, Zermatt and the capital of Berne - the possibilities are varied.

There are over 550kms of walking paths to explore the scenery in and around Kandersteg, parts of which belongs to the UNESCO World heritage Swiss Alps. Lake Oschienen certainly lives up to this recognition with its shimmering mountain lake. Bus Kandersteg to Frutigen approx. 30 mins, bus Kandersteg to Adelboden approx. 1hr.
