Board the Rocky Mountaineer and explore Canada one of the most iconic routes through the Rocky Mountains. Passing dramatically-changing countryside while travelling through valleys, canyons and mountain passes. End your trip in the remote and untamed wilderness of the Yukon and explore rugged trails, shorelines and forests and hope to witness the dazzling blue, green and red spectacle of the Northern Lights.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival in Calgary/Banff (Saturday or Wednesday)

Arrive into Calgary’s International Airport and board your transfer through the mountains to the blissful town of Banff. After checking in at your hotel, spend the rest of your day relaxing or exploring this beautiful parkland town. It is hard to not fall in love with Banff Avenue, the main street in Banff offering impeccable views and home to plenty of unique shops, cafes and restaurants.

Day 2 - Banff (Sunday or Thursday)

An entire day at your disposal to continue to explore one of Canada's most famous mountain towns. Banff makes a perfect base to explore the surrounding areas with a myriad of hiking trails that start from various places across the town. Why not join a wildlife tour and go off searching for the many unique animals in their natural environments.

Day 3 - Banff to Jasper (Monday or Friday)

Today you'll depart on your full day sightseeing transfer to Jasper. Along the way through the incredible Icefields Parkway you'll stop of at the Columbia Icefields where an Ice Explorer ride will take you up onto the ancient Athabasca Glacier. Here, you'll be able to walk on, feel and drink from the 10,000 year old geological wonder. Next you'll have the opportunity to experience the Glacier SkyWalk, an extended glass-floored platform over the Sunwapta Canyon. The panoramic views are simply breathtaking. Arrive into Jasper later in the afternoon.

Day 4 - Jasper (Tuesday or Saturday)

A full day to fashion your own ventures in Jasper. This alpine town is surrounded by lush forests, rivers and snow capped mountains. Perhaps board the Jasper Skytram for access to hiking with fantastic views or arrange a rafting trip down the Athabasca River. There are plenty of activities in and around the town to choose from. The popular motorcycle sidecar tours offer a different experience to explore the parks scenic roads.

Day 5 - ROCKY MOUNTAINEER - Jasper to Kamloops (Wednesday or Sunday)

Today marks the start of your adventure on board the incredible Rocky Mountaineer from Jasper to Kamloops. One of the most awe-inspiring rail journeys in the world, this daylight service passes through spectacular natural landscapes where you can admire the many mountain peaks, waterfalls and scenic valleys from the luxurious comfort of your cabin. By late afternoon, you arrive in the arid ranch land of interior British Columbia and the rugged town of Kamloops where you disembark for the night.

Day 6 - ROCKY MOUNTAINEER - Kamloops to Vancouver (Thursday or Monday)

The second leg of your Rocky Mountaineer journey sees you depart Kamloops and head for the cosmopolitan city of Vancouver. The route follows the Fraser and Thompson Rivers and passes through the 'cowboy country' and into the historic pioneer territory of the west. Arriving in Vancouver you'll make your own way to your downtown hotel where you can relax or head out and explore the diverse districts and sample the variety of delicious cuisine.

Day 7 - Vancouver (Friday or Tuesday)

A whole day set aside to extensively explore Vancouver. A San-Fransisco-style trolley tour allows your to conveniently sightsee at your own pace as you hop-on and hop-off at many premier attractions. The highlights include Gastown, Robson Street, English Bay, Stanley Park and Granville where a free walking tour with the Tour Guys is highly recommended.

Day 8 - Vancouver to Whitehorse / Southern Lakes Resort (Saturday or Wednesday)

Leave the city behind as you individually transfer to Vancouver International Airport in time to check in for your Air North flight to Whitehorse. Arriving in this northern provincial capital, you are transferred by coach or floatplane to your base for the next few nights, Southern Lake Resort. This spectacular lakefront resort offers comfortable log built cabins and a warm and freindly atmosphere. Take soemt ime to meet your hosts and discuss what adventures await. In the evening cross your fingers and venture out on your first viewing to glimpse the spectacular Northern Lights as they dance and swirl across the sky. 

Day 9 - Southern Lakes Resort (Sunday or Thursday)

Experience the true nature and magic of the Yukon and venture out, trail map in hand, or accompany your guide through the local trails to track the large inhabitants of the forest and lake lands.

Day 10 - Southern Lakes Resort (Monday or Friday)

Continue to admire your surroundings or perhaps raise your adventure with some canoeing, hiking or fishing (season and weather permitting, some at additional cost). These experiences reveal the true beauty and magic of the Yukon and allow you to truly appreciate the dramatically rugged and preciously fragile nature of your surroundings.

Day 11 - Southern Lakes Resort / Whitehorse to Vancouver (Tuesday or Saturday)

It is time to bid your hosts farewell as you are transferred back to Whitehorse for your flight to Vancouver. Arriving in Vancouver you'll transfer independently to your hotel and enjoy your last evening in the contrasting city.

Day 12 - End of Tour (Wednesday or Sunday)

Today your Canadian experience comes to an end as you independently transfer to Vancouver International Airport for your flight home.
