Itinerary

Day 1: UK to Reykjavík

Fly to Keflavik Airport and hop on the FlyBus shuttle to the city of Reykjavík. Enjoy a day in the capital city at your own leisure. You will meet your Guide on day 2.

Day 2:  Reykjavík to Akureyri

Met your guide and travel west along the Hvalfjörður fjord. Take an easy hike on the Grábrók volcano crater which is actually in the middle of a lava field. Visit a seal and natural history museum in the afternoon then carry on travelling north, with a stop at the turf church of Víðimýri, before reaching Akureyri which is the capital of North Iceland.

Day 3: Akureyri to Myvatn Baths

Explore Akureyri and its panoramic views over the Eyjafjörður fjord. You have the option to take a whale watching tour this morning, that is organised locally with your guide. Travel to Godafoss this afternoon, also known as the waterfall of the Gods, before exploring Lake Mývatn. Here you can see the strange lava formations at Kálfaströnd, the pseudo craters at Skútustaðir and the tephra cone Hverfjall, then relax in the geothermal Mývatn Nature Baths that give you amazing views.

Day 4: Mud Pools and Hot Springs

There’s a morning walk in the lava labyrinth at Dimmuborgir, it’s said that trolls still live here so try to spot them! The bubbling mud pools and hot spring area of Námaskarð will be visited in the afternoon, before heading through the uninhabited highlands of East Iceland. You’ll take a detour to Dettifoss, one of the most powerful waterfalls in Europe.

Day 5: East Iceland  

Today you’ll admire the dramatic East Fjord landscape as you drive through the fishing villages and twisty roads. Then getting to see the biggest glacier in Europe, Vatnajökull.

Day 6: National Parks and Waterfalls 

Start the morning with a boat tour in Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon, which is filled with floating icebergs. Then walk on the Diamond Beach and the stranded icebergs that wash up there. Travelling along the bottom of Vatnajökull National Park, the second-largest National Park in Europe, you can still see the glacier as well as Iceland’s highest mountain. There’s more natural wonders this afternoon as you go across Eldhraun lava field, overlooked by mountainous cliffs, waterfalls and glaciers. You’ll stop for a stroll along the black lava beach of Reynisfjara, before exploring the 60-meter-high Skogafoss waterfall. Then seeing the Seljalandsfoss waterfall which rushes over the mountain and has a trail to go behind the fall (if you want to get wet).

Day 7: Golden Circle

The Golden Circle is the main and infamous attraction today, with Geysir and Strokkur geysers erupting, Gullfoss golden waterfall and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Thingvellir National Park. Before this you will start the day at Friðheimar and learning about the Icelandic Horses, their history and qualities and visiting a geothermal greenhouse. As you return to Reykjavik there will be a short city tour to see the main sights of the world’s more northern capital.

Day 8: Reykjavík to UK

After your night’s stay in Reykjavík you will get an individual transfer by Flybus shuttle to the airport.
