France, Lake Annecy
The enchanting village of Talloires, France, with its picturesque old houses and renowned hotels and restaurants, is an ideal choice for a restful holiday. Lying by Europe's cleanest lake, just 9 miles from Annecy, the "Venice of the Alps", Talloires is steeped in history. An abbey was founded here in 1016 and it used to be a Roman staging post on the Milan-Strasbourg road. The resort is sheltered by imposing mountains and offers colourful walks both by the lake and in the surrounding hills.
