Discover Lake Ledro

  • Walk along the Ponale Way to Riva in Lake Garda
  • Canoe or kayak along Lake Ledro's crystal clear waters
  • Discover local history at the Pile Dwelling Museum

Lake Ledro is a scene straight out of a fairy tale, with emerald waters that, in the summer, mirror the mountains and pine forests all around. Walking trails circle the lake and zig-zag down to Riva– the northernmost town of Lake Garda. There are around 200km worth of walking trails around these parts, so it’s a case of pick a path, any path. Just make sure to stop at the alpine cheese huts and panoramic viewpoints along the way.

Things to do in Lake Ledro

If you love nature, take a day trip to Lake Ampola on the bus, the journey will take you about an hour, otherwise hire a taxi and you can get there in about ten minutes. The lake has been kept in its completely natural state and the nature reserve's full of animals. In the Summer there are endless types of insects, birds and mammals. Our favourite thing about Ampola is the water lilies that bloom in the Spring and turn the whole pond yellow.

The Pile dwelling museum in Molina's definitely worth a visit. It'll give you an insight into the way people lived on Lake Ledro 4000 years ago. It's a bronze age settlement and a UNESCO heritage site. For more history, the Garibaldi Museum's great for the first world war history of the area. Did you know Ledro was on the front line in World War 1?

Ledro's a fantastic spot for water sports. Families love the calm nature of the lake, spending all day on the beaches and renting all manner of water sports equipment. It's clear, fresh water is great for swimming, sailing, paddle boarding, pedaloes, canoeing, kayaking and windsurfing. If you fancy trying out a different lake for a day, you can also head to Riva in Lake Garda on the bus, where the winds are fantastic for windsurfing afficionados.

The lake has been awarded the Cinque Vele award which is an acknowledgment of its fantastic, clean water quality and the community's dedication to protecting the bio-diversity and environment around the lake. This makes it all the more appealing for watersports.
