Walking through the natural park and sipping espresso by Portofino harbour
The Portofino Natural Park is a real gem, and will give you a taste of the original Portofino region- before it became the stamping ground for the rich and famous. Walk through farmland and along down-to-earth trails, before heading back down to the coastline. Finish off your day sipping an espresso by the harbour, as fishing boats clink and bob about in the breeze. Rapallo and Santa Margherita have a fantastic atmosphere if you want an evening aperitivo before dinner, with locals out and about, having a very Italian natter and catching up on life.

Exploring colourful Cinque Terre Villages on the train or ferry
One of our favourite ways to get around the Cinque Terre area is on the ferry. From Portovenere or Lerici, where many of our hotels are based, you can hop on a ferry into the Cinque Terre towns for the day. This is a fantastic way to see the coastline from a different angle, and the best way to admire the famous towns in their zoomed-out magnificence. If you head out on a sunny day, the colourful buildings will really stand out against the glistening blue sea and vineyard terraces that surround them. The train network is also very handy if you're exploring each Cinque Terre town; there's no shortage of public transport options to help you make the most of your summer holiday!
